Light output on my '00 is pitiful... Dad's '16 is MUCH better.

Just brighter bulbs (not HID's). The 5th Gen gets somewhat better with better bulbs but stock was worse than my '01. I drove my 3rd gen down to pick up the '16 at night and remember how disappointed I was with the headlights.
Both are better than the headlights on my old '94 T4R though. Much, much, MUCH better.
Back on topic, having not driven an early 5th gen with the non-projector headlights, can't say if those are worse than the refresh's projectors. Something to consider when test driving one if you do. I've read opinions on here that go both ways.

The 10-13s were very good for visibility. The 14-... have terrible headlights from the factory. Most halogen projectors are not great. I'm sure they get much better with a HID bulb in it....

Truth. I have pics from Lightwerkz comparing beam patterns and lux meter readings between stock halogen, stock projectors w/ clear lens + HID drop-ins, IS350 retrofits w/ clear lens, and the new MLED projector.
Lux readings in the same order: 129, 564 (!), 313, 593.

I am looking to trade my '10 SR5 for an 18' LE - the only reason is the for the FT 4WD for my wife to drive if she ever needs to in the winter. The value of the 4R is still strong so might as well take advantage of it while I can. I may hold out to see what '19 offers though.

Go drive an SR5P. The 4WD selector is so easy to use. No way would my wife have managed the previous shifter, but this is literally twisting a knob.
I'm happy for this improvement because there are several features on the LE that I simply do not want.

But Philsey, it's much easier (for me not getting questions from my wife) not to even have to think about turning a knob. Especially in MN, where on the way to work you could go from ice, dry pavement, slush, thick snow....and back and fourth between them all a dozen times. I love the FT 4WD.

We had about 3 different ones on the lot we were going to buy and the one we got did not have the 3rd row but it was an 2018 and not the 2017 so i figured it would be worth more than in the long run if I ever decided to upgrade. The sales man said that all 2018 came standard with the 3rd row so we just took his word and did not even look because the truck had to come from a different state.
got to love salesmen:yell: They do not since i had hard time tracking down one with a third row for my wife

To be completely fair, this was not his decision. This dealership has decided that they will load 4Rs up with extra cost options. No different than running boards or floor mats.
Could he have told you otherwise? Sure, and face an ass-chewing ... or worse.
Knowledge is your best friend. As I've posted multiple times: Caveat emptor.

Sometimes we DO know more about a vehicle than they do, think new guy, 2nd week, GM's nephew, looks up from phone occasionally.
I can locate a car faster than most sales nozzles.

Genuinely curious. I thought all FJ's were part time 4x4. Similar to how my Trail Edition is.
I didn't know some of them came with a full time 4x4 system.
I'm guessing it's similar to the Limited's system?

I traded my 2010 Mag Grey SR5 in for a 2016 Trail. Go for it.
Edit: I will say, I love the look and abilities of my new Trail WAY more than the SR5, but I do miss some things. Things I thought would be standard or I think were in the 2010-2013. Probably would have had them had I got a trail premium.
* Homelink controls (built in garage door opener)
* Center console screen/HUD w/ compass, temp, time (I only had an SR5 but I think the 10-13 trails had the best version of this)
