Upgrading rear view mirror

Hi everybody. Just picked up a new 2011 sr5 and I love it. One thing that I hate is the cheesy mirror that comes on the sr5. Any body know how to change this out to a nice auto dimming one? I changed my 2008 camry to a nice gentex but that was easy since all I had to do was remove 1 set screw to replace it. The t4r has a murakami mirror and I don't s1 any screws. Any ideas how to change this?

The auto dimming mirror is part of an options package on the SR5, got it on mine, would never own a vehicle without one. There are a number of companies that make aftermarket ones, or you could ask your dealer how much he would charge to order an OEM one in and wire it up. Since you are just looking for 'power' to the mirror and not the video signal it should not be that big of a project.

I believe that Gentex is the supplier for most of the oem auto dimming mirrors. I am planing on doing this here in a few weeks when I get the time. I will try to provide a write up when do. If all you want is the auto dimming feature Gentex has em on their website for around $70 and they go up from there depending on the features you want on them (ei: compass, homelink). On anther note I am wondering if there is a company that makes the auto dimming side mirrors... I know that even f150's have them as an option now.

I replaced mine on my SR5 Tundra w/the Toyota part purchased from Sparks I believe. Was very easy to do as everything was prewired (under the roof cover) and the directions were easy. Assume that you can do the same thing w/your 4Runner. Shop around as sometimes there are mirrors on EBAY etc.

ok so i was just messing around trying to figure out how to get the mirror off and could'nt find a screw or anything actually holding it in place ( like my last 4runners mirror) So i just aplied some upward presure and voila it just came slid off. it just has some presure clips holding it in place. so I am about to order the auto dim mirror from the gentex website. I will provide a full write up as soon as I install the new mirror.

Ok just a quick update. I would have done this already but I guess my order got a messed up and didnt go through...But I talked to a customer service rep and was given a full refund on the shipping and they gave me 25% off of the mirror so its all good now and i should have the mirror by mon. So I plan to have the write up done by wed.

Ever get a chance to do it insane? :)

Yes I did just last week! And will have the writeup done either tonight or tomorrow ... sorry just been busy with school. It was real easy and only took about 30-45 min...and that even included finding the power source also. :D
