Upper Control Arm safety concern

Chris from SPC emailed me this afternoon and followed up with a phone call. Very nice guy!! He is going to send me the replacement kit, which includes 4 bushings, 4 sleeves, 4 washers, and 2 nuts. I appreciate their great customer service and willingness to make it right. It's what we would all like to see in any companies that we purchase products from.

I appreciate the tips and link for the bushing swap.

Eddie, when I put the washer and nuts on, I repositioned the bolt back to where it was supposed to be in relation to the shock tower. Tightening the nuts did not push the bushing inward or bend it. But as soon as I started driving and braking slightly, the bolt and the whole arm started to move forward because there's no sleeve inside the rear bushing to be stopped by the bolt guide channel and the bushing just rides right over it until it's stopped by the shock tower.

I have had a nasty vibration under braking that is more noticable from higher speeds.

This past July the front pads were worn and i was too busy to install the pads i had purchased, so I had the dealership turn the rotors and install the pads. Still had the vibe but it was not terribly noticable in city traffic. Around the holidays i did a lot of highway driving and was super annoyed by the vibe so replacing the rotors elevated on my priority list.

Today i had all the parts, cleaned up the truck, pulled the wheels and found a ton of free play in the diver side suspension. Light racing uca was the movement. Looked around and found the nut was able to move by finger.

I tightened the nut and figured i needed to put the wheels on and test it. Initially it seemed like all the vibe was gone, but under some heavy braking i did notice some vibes.

About 87k miles on truck, suspension went in at around 20k. I know it was very tight when it went in.

I think i may try the second nut or some green wicking locktight.

Anyone happen to know the bolt size and thread pitch? Local hardware stores are pretty pathetic, it would probably be easier to order online than go searching local stores

I have TC stock length uppers and I torqued mine to 95 lb/ft and have never had any issues with backing off or anything. I went to recheck my torque today to respond here and she's still at a solid 95 lb/ft

I actually documented it back in my post #25. It's M14x1.5. If you don't have luck finding it in any sort of nut, you can get it in a lug nut. I've got the dealer P/N's in that post as well if you wanted to order the proper flange nut. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Thanks for the part number. I was considering just ordering the big bolt and nut combo from wheelers offroad, but the nut has stayed tight.

FYI my vibration seems to have been just from the rotors. I replaced the rotors and pads tonight and think the problem is solved. The rods that the brake pads ride on inside the caliper on one side had some nicks / scars / rough spots. It may have been preventing the pad from moving freely and contributed to pad material on the rotor. Diamond file and wire wheel smoothed it all out.

Tightening The uca nut did solve the noise i would hear coming innand out of the driveway.

My nut and washer went missing the other day (week? Month??!) and I just noticed during a regular maintenance interval when I grease my JBA ball joints.

Looked frantically online and your post was most helpful. I’ll run to the store and grab that M14x2.4 but and some fat washers to tide me over until I can order the OEM stuff.
