URD MAF Sensor Calibrator

for the mods you have it probably is not worth it to custom tune. It is not hard but you need to either rent dyno time from a place that hopefully has a tailpipe wideband sensor you can borrow, or buy your own wideband and obd2 software to monitor the throttle map while having someone drive up and down an open road while you street tune in the passenger seat. Either way you would be looking at $500.

I would just ask him for a basic intake tune and flash it. It would be close enough that even doing a custom tune you maybe would only gain 2hp, if that vs his canned tunes.

Custom tuning is really only worth it if you are supercharging, etc where there is a huge difference in a tune and you could also blow the engine. The gains of an intake/exhaust are negligible and you would not blow anything up or ruin the engine with such minimal mods.

Any intake tune he gives you will probably be very similar anyway, as the airflow differences between different aftermarket intakes won't be much.

Thank you for your input, That was my thought track as well. I have been emailing him back and forth and he seems very against "throwing a tune" at an engine thats made for another intake. So even though I think this would work- and as beneficial as this mod sounds, I suppose its one Ill have to unfortunately pass on it. :noidea:

Just checking, anyone with 1 installed get any grief from the dealer during reg warranty 5k mile maintainence or is it best to unistall to avoid potential issues. I think they will see the TRD intake but not the URD box on the firewall.

Nope, I've had mine to the dealer twice and they never said a word about it

I found it took a couple weeks to really kick in. But I was not driving very many miles at the time.

Mine gets up and goes on the highway much better. If I need to floor it, it responds surprisingly better.

The biggie for me was the highway we use all the time. Rolling. Before the 4R would shift into 3rd going around 75-80 two or three times each direction on cruise control. Now it never does that. And from the sound of my exhaust (Borla) it is working less as well.

I also have an AFE cai.

I did disconnect my battery during install.

Update:

I got around to installing mine today but did not disconnect the battery during the process. Installation was very easy, then I went to run about 10 miles worth of errands.

I felt absolutely no difference with this mod, even from the ever optimistic, prone-to-justify-money-spent butt-o-meter.

I came back home, disconnected the battery and drained the power out of the system hoping that would reset the computer and allow me to start fresh. It helped. Drove another 15 miles or so tonight and I can feel a very slight difference. Tip in is easier and it seems like you need to apply less pressure to get the same amount of juice out of the pedal. I'd say the pedal response seems maybe 15-20% improved.

I was on the fence with a Sprint Booster but won't buy it based on this mod because I don't need further changes to the pedal response. I am surprised to see so many folks here talk about how great this mod is, and how it's the "perfect touch" for intake and exhaust combinations. I'm happy with the TRD CAI + Borla Touring and would not spend this $300 if I had it to do over again.

The MAF calibrator worked great to open up some throttle response and even out my idle with a CAI and exhaust, I never expected it to add much HP

But did you tune the maf calibrator as well on the dyno? modifying the fuel curves properly definitely have the potential to give better gains. I would say minimal gains if you just plug it in, but more to be had if you tuned it on the dyno.

How would that work?

The version I have is loaded with the tune for the TRD Intake and an exhaust.

If you email URD they can send you the r4 software to tune it. you remove the cover from the box and plug in a serial to usb converter cable and you can adjust fuel trims with the cells. The tunes they give are canned tunes, but it doesnt account for difference in elevation as well as your specific fuel trims. you just adjust the load cells till you get optimal A/F ratios throughout the power bad. I dont have cheap or easy access to a dyno, but I would do it if I did. I bet there would be more gains to be had. maybe not a massive amount but I would bet proper tuning could gain you another 10hp/tq.

While on the dyno, with A/F gauge, run through the RPM's and watch what cells are used. then adjust the cells accordingly where it is rich or lean. Then you reflash the new cells to the box and then repeat until its all good.

I got a very lightly used unit from a forum member (has a TRD intake tune on it). I bought a tuning cable and attempted to get everything running tonight with no success. Trying to download drivers, install them, get everything working: 100% not user friendly (at least for me).

Anyone willing to put the stock tune on my unit if I send it to them? Willing to pay for the shipping/time. PM me if interested

Dealer had my T4R for over a month on other warranty work and never said anything.

I just installed a TRD intake and the MAF calibrator today and my check engine light was on and my Trac off light when I tried starting it back up after install.

Anyone have any issues with the lights going on?

I disconnected the batter before install as well.

UPDATE: It is code P0113. "Intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit high input"

Thanks

My CE lights as well as other lights came on after the install. I asked gadget what the problem might be and he mentioned to check the pins and connectors. There was one connector that felt difficult and I swear I squeezed it until my hands were shaking. This time I used channel locks to close it until it actually snapped in place. That solved it. Ive been happy w/it since & noticed an increase in fuel economy as well as holding a lower gear on freeway inclines that I frequently drive

I have a brand new one for sale. It did not work on my 06 Tundra because of air pump delete kit. This it the same fit/connectors as 4Runners. Because I used once it can't be returned. Only thing is it would need tune from Gadget. Let me know any questions. Have everything that came with it. $150 or best offer
