URGENT! Audio Gurus chime in

Alright guys, on my 2006 4Runner Sport i just bought it has a Pioneer F90BT touchscreen Navi. Basically I hate the unit and am replacing it with a Clarion I just bought for my previous vehicle.

When i bought the vehicle a few weeks ago and after going over it I seen that it once "had" a subwoofer in it as the sub wires are still there. There is still a thick gauge wire going to the battery. The day I bought it I unhooked that cable since I knew there was no longer a subwoofer. To my dismay, it caused my regular speakers didnt work after that so I hooked it back up and they worked again.....some one explain this.....


Alright jump to today, i take the F90bt out and just what i figured....a birdnest of wires!!!!! I finally get everything unhooked and sort through the wires and get it down to just the factory pigtails. Then I take the two adapters wire them up to my new unit's wiring. Turn the key over, cd player fires up and everything works BUT the sound.....dang it!!!! All my stuff is hooked up correctly, wire colors match, its not rocket science.

Also there is a third connector that i have no clue what it is that the previous owner cut three of the wires and had them connected to previous unit somehow...

Can someone please help me get my sound to work!!!! Everytbing else works great

The bottom two connectors are hoomed up just fine, the top one is the third connector witb tbree wires cut as you see. What is this connector and does it have something to do with my sound not working?

Looks like you might've had the JBL system and the PO did some jury rigging with wiring the old unit instead of buying the appropriate adapter harness.

I can't tell for sure but it looks like those 3 loose wires were just cut off of that 3rd plug.

Do you have JBL badges on the doors?

edit - also, the power wire cutting all music off suggests that he tried to fully bypass JBL and there is probably a 4 channel amp under the seat or somewhere that powers your speakers and is powered by that big cable.

If possible, I'd see about finding that amp and running RCAs from the stereo to the amp instead of whatever wiring this guy has going on.

Thanks, no there are no JBL badges. There is definitely a n Alpine amp under the seat. And you are correct those tbree wires were cut from the top connector, but I dont know what that connector is for

That really helped, so the connector was for the steering wheel control. Well after messing with it today, I have figured it out somewhat. Previous owner does have all the door speakers through the amp. I hooked the amp wires to the new unit, and wallah!!! Sound.

BUTTTTT..... I have sound on tuner/radio mode. If I switch to CD, no soind whatsoever. Scratching my head for sure!

Your head unit was wired to the aftermarket amp the whole time that's why you got no power when you disconnected the cable to the battery. You should be fine I just wiring speakers to the amp

check the remote wire, some unit have 2 blue remote wire, i always just use the amp turn on for everything, and not use the antenna one, this happen to me with some kenwood decks i put in, or you can trace another 12v acc wire to turn on the amp.

Fixed it!! That was the exact issue. A buddy helped me figure it out. I had the amp signal wire and the antenna wire switched. So when I switched to CD it turned off the amp. Pretty easy mistame since they are both blue wires lol

Lol you can "buy" it lol. I have it listed for $350 on a few other sites. I guess hate was a stong word lol. I preferred my Clarion over it. I didnt like having to look away from road to navigate the unit.
