Using empty slots in OEM fuse box?

I was thinking about this thread while I was at the junkyard today and decided to grab a fuse box out of a '97.

Now I'm thinking "how do I get these damn terminals out without destroying them?".

Do I need a terminal removal tool kit? I was going to buy one but have no idea which might work - 20, 39, 60, 76, 82, 109 piece set?

You need a small flat tip screwdriver set similar to this. The terminal removal kits on Amazon are junk. I installed an aux fuse box from a '04' Grand Cherokee in my '18 Runner to avoid changing main box.

Also would this be a suitable fuse holder if you cant find a 4runner to harvest components from?

i don't see why not, they should.

It's been a while since I did this project, but I believe that the terminals you linked will not work.

If you look closely, you'll see that they are missing the small "step" and the "wings" that Toyota terminals have, as do the ho-1000 terminals. I think both are needed to properly snap into place in the fuse box. But I could be wrong.

Stupid question but how is the fuse cover held down? I want to get access to the inside of the box to add a few fuses.

It's been a while and I still haven't bought anything. Can anyone confirm if any of the linked products will work in our 4runner?

Finding this part out of a junkyard is impossible because the wiring harnesses are worth so much more intact.
