V6 - 2WD vs 4WD mode - mpg

Hi

Has anyone tested to see what the gas mileage difference when you set it from 2wd to 4wd mode in a V6?

Several threads on it but the difference is minor/insignificant. The EPA ratings are:

V6 2wd: 16/21
V6 4wd: 16/20

and most get around those it seems.

Basically on your v6 you are already driving around with the extra weight of the 4x4 system so using it does not change milage much. (At least that is why from my view.)

The thread then turns into a debate with people saying they always drive in 4hi and try to convince others to do the same vs people saying they always use 2hi unless needed and trying to convince the first group to do the same.

When im using 4wd i generally get about 40 miles per tank. Of course im usually driving at about 3mph offroad at the time. :lookout:

What he ^^ said. The first 3 years I drove mostly in 4hi. =12 to 13 mpg. The last 3 years I have driven mostly in 2WD. =12 to 13 mpg. Mileage sucks and it doesn't matter how I drive or in what mode. Been 12 to 13 period, 1 caveat, I do get around 16 on road trips!!:brick: OH, and it's an 06 V6 Auto SR5.

I always track my gas mileage and I've run a few full tanks in 4Hi to compare to 2Hi and I only see about 1 MPG (maybe 2 occasionally) decrease in 4Hi the whole time vs 2Hi the whole time.
