Fortunately I have an extra vehicle so I’ve been taking my time with the 4Runner. The information I’ve found here has been invaluable - thank you for that.

Did you do it yourself? That is strong work man.

Hello everyone, potential new 4runner owner here. I found a very nice 2006 4runner with the v6, it has 120,000 miles on it with a build date of 3/2006. Do i need to be concerned with the head gaskets? or would this have the redesigned gasket? would hate to buy this and have them blow!! Thanks in advance!
five posts prior it says 11/05 and later got the updated head gaskets.

Yes sir, in the process as we speak. Will see after I get it all buttoned up whether or not I made the right decision, lol.

2006 v6 2wd
152k
no head gasket issues
2005 4Runner 140,000 miles
No issues in 13 years on bumpy Bahamas roads
Owned from new
Should I change original coolent - which looks pink like new - no leaks ever - no evaporation
Brakes and new rotors done at shop - now like perfect
Tranny fluid changed at 100,000 miles at dealer ($350) - book said not to change it
4 runner is running circles around all The. Cars I ever owned.
It's actually AFTER 11/05. They started using the new head gaskets in December of '05. A 4Runner built in 3/06 should be fine.
Oh, and the reason I know is that mine was built in 11/05 and the head gaskets failed. When we compared the old ones to the new ones, they were clearly different.
Just curious if there would be a difference in oem part numbers from the before and after 11/05 if im looking to do my head gasket.
