V6 or V8

Prefer the V6 or V8 and why?

Someone here is butt hurt, but it isn't me.

You get a couple more mpg. That's about it.
 
V8 all the way. 4runner is not the vehicle if you are concerned about MPG. For travelling from San Diego to San Francisco, I averaged 17mpg with full load with family (2 adults 1 child and luggage area full to where there it was past the rear window. I had no issues go up hills and only revved past 3k when passing. I'd only recommend V6 if was only driver and one passenger with minimal load.

the v8 has more torque but seriously, thats absurd.

Where do I begin? How about this, 3 - 200 lb + guys and about 200lbs of ammo and firearms + another 300 lbs of camping gear /supplies, off road with a V6? And we actually had to drive on highways to get there. Shocking. Even more shocking is we got there averaging about 75 mph with no problems. Have you ever driven a V6 4Runner? Your comments would suggest they are Smart Cars with bigger tires. Look around this forum and check out what some of these guys are towing....... with V6 engines......... without issues. And lastly, I guess the V6 sucks so bad that ISIS and the rest of the goat humpers in the middle east load Toyota trucks up with heavy weapons and haul ass through the desert with them.................

Sorry Wnelax, Burnzy and others didn't mean to offend anyone. I made mistake when I said recommending V6 minimal load. My bad. Funny thing was I trying to buy V6 but ended up with V8. I drove both but felt that V8 was better overall cruiser with full load but then I also have a heavy foot also. As long as everyone is happy with whatever they have V6 (more mileage) or V8 and a 4runner, i'm happy.

Buy whatever is in best condition for a better price. Trust me, you will be happy with either. But if you end up with a v6. Erease the v8 out of your head completly. Just think there is no such thing as a v8 4runner. :yo:

Think of it as a myth and thats why there are no 5th gen runners made with a v8. Plus you will save a bundle on 2 extra spark plugs.

I love V8 power. I traded my 2007 Hemi Charger in for my 4Runner. Trust me, if I could have found a V8 with the mileage / price within my budget I would have one right now. But I have found that the V6 is super capable and since I've had it I have yet to feel underpowered. DISCLAIMER : I don't tow anything..... Bottom line is everyone, including myself needs to smoke a bowl of tobacco... of course. And chill. :hippie:
 
The v8 does rev lower in cruise or climbing hills, and may be close to the mpg as the v6, but one point many forget to argue over is that the v8 cannot be taken out of 4WD or AWD or whatever you want to call it. you have 4LO and 4HI. the v8 has a very hard time breaking traction and will never disappoint in the rain. If you aren't towing (v8 has a tranny cooler factory installed so thats a plus for that) then the v8 /v6 thought should be secondary to the price. Drive both on the same route up and down hills some and what not and decide which feels better. Coming from the 3.4L slug in the third gen I can't speak enough how much of a pleasure the v8 fourth gen has been. I bought mine at an auction and didn't know if it was a v8 or v6 until i won the bid, but if it was a v6 I would be just as happy.
