V6 Swap

Hey there! I'm pretty new to the forum thing, as well as the Toyota 4Runner! The thing I DO know is that I love my new (ish) 4Runner and have a few questions about it. It is a 98 sr5 4wd, and is running up on 200,000 miles. I know she will run longer, but i am seriously considering replacing the motor anyway. I'm interested in more power, and I have seen some mods for the 3.4 v6, but I am interested in whether or not the new 4.0 v6 will fit my 4Runner. If anyone has any insight on this, good or bad, I'm interested! Also, any news on mods for the 3.4 will do as well. Thanks!

The 4.0 has been out a while and I've yet to hear of even somebody attempting it but my guess it's too cost and labor intensive to even try.

That would definitely be the coolest mod ever on a 3rd gen though. I have read of somebody throwing a V8 in a 2nd gen. Personally I would want to keep the trans and just swap the motor:cool:

Yes, you CAN swap in a 4.0L. You could even swap in an LS7. Just takes money. :D

Seriously, you need to do a lot of fab and custom work for it to fit. It's not like a B-series to a Civic swap.

Yeah, I figured it could be done, but I AM looking at cost effective ways to do it. I'm liking the supercharging idea, but I have also heard that there is a turbo out for the 3.4... Curious which one would be the better buy. Anyone have experience with one or the other?

Supercharging is always cheaper and easier because you don't need to mess with the exhaust tubing. Also, plumbing a turbo is difficult on a "V" engine because the exhaust is right next to the strut tower.
