V8 4Runner and 6x12/7x14 trailer

I currently own a 5x8 trailer and I have outgrown the trailer for my small business. So I am looking to upgrade to a much larger trailer, but I am concerned about the stability and towabilty in the real world with the 4Runner.

I am looking a purchasing a 6x12 or 7x14 with dual axles and ramp door and I am looking at hauling around 2500-3500 lbs of gear inside the trailer. Maybe more later on once the business grows more.

I am also about to install some helper bags in the rear of the 4Runner. My 4Runner is an 2004 and with the V8.

My question is; will the 4Runner handle the load of the trailer?

I have a 2004 V8 4Runner and tow an 8.5'x20' enclosed car trailer that weighs 5200-5500 lbs.
When it comes to stability and towability it comes down to the equipment you use.
I have the weight distributing hitch with a sway control setup.
Since my trailer is much wider than the 4Runner I use strap on McKesh mirrors which work VERY WELL.

Once you get into larger/heavier trailers a good brake controller and electric brakes on the trailer can make a BIG difference in performance and stability.
I use the Prodigy controller which has worked well for me.

Obviously, when towing a larger, heavier trailer one may need to alter their driving technique and habits.
The larger and heavier the trailer the further down the road one must look to see driving situations sooner.
Smooth and steady are words to live by. Sudden lane changes and extremely hard braking should be avoided.

One other thing you might consider is to re-evaluate your vehicle insurance coverage.
When towing a trailer any accident you might be involved in has the potential to me MUCH more serious and therefore more costly.
Towing a trailer with state mandated minimum insurance coverage might not be in one's best financial interest.

You also might want to check with your insurance professional regarding how your trailer is covered.
I have been told that as long as a trailer is hitched to it's tow vehicle the trailer is covered by the tow vehicle's insurance coverage.
When the trailer is not hitched to the tow vehicle then it is covered by it's own insurance (if you have it insured) or it is not covered at all.
For some people that may or may not be an issue.
