V8 conversion

Amazing thread. I just wiped a few hours from my day reading up on all this. Good to see that there are still people out there with fabricating skills.

How many hours do you think you have into the swap for the 4runner alone?

Looks great! Now its even more depressing jumping into my 4runner. :crybaby:

I have a couple hours in it. It is hard to say. From start to finish. Maybe a day.

I only worked on it a couple of hours at a time.

hands down this is the coolest 4runner ive seen. I would be willing to donate body parts to get a v8 in mine. Need a testicle?
 
I'm doing this conversion. I busted a load about 849302 times reading this. I never knew cars could make me so horny.....I'm so glad you went so far in depth with this I'm going to start planning it out. I just need to learn to weld.

You might check the Emissions laws where you live, to see if the resulting vehicle with a swapped-in engine can be registered.

Some places have very strict Emissions laws.

Texas isn't harsh on them at all, that's where it's originally registered. I'd be damned if I registered it in Cali. No offense though if anyone is from Cali.
 
Thanks again for the compliments. Still not 4runner of the Month though but I love my truck.


Another reason for doing the swaps.

Easy oil filter access - It almost changes its own oil...



Not a drop of oil on the ground, engine or frame....

Maybe the powers that be will allow for members to vote on "mod of the year" or something along those lines.
 
My michelens aren't worn out yet. Trying to get every last mile out of them.




Doc2012 crappy luck must be rubbing off his hoopty in my yard to my baby.

My 4runner left me stranded all day yesterday. My ignition key was wore out.

I had to go to Toyota dealer today and get a new key cut (to my VIN number). Cost my $12.50. Would of cost more if I had to get a Transponder chip key.

I can't believe I wore a key out.

 
Photobucket has locked me up. I am only allowed 10 gigabits of viewage per month. They want $36 a year to upgrade to 20 gb.

Surprisingly, the republic of California is pretty simple on engine swaps.

~Engine must be of the same year or newer
~Must have all the emmisions equipment

That's about the gist of it from what I remember, you'll still have to get a referee to look at it which is the biggest pain in the ass part.

The only stupid thing, is that say you blew your engine in your 2000 and got a great deal on a '98; that'd technically be a no no, even though they're the same engine. But really that's more a technicality than enforced if I remember right.

Haha, did they respond already? Just figured I'd pass it along in case it was still available. Do you need to modify your good to fit the sc or is there enough room?
 
Freaky thing happened to me yesterday. Almost lost it.

I was leaving my shop - long day,tired, hungry - yetta yetta.

I had to make a u-turn on to 4 lane highway.

It was dusk (sun had set but the street lights weren't on yet) and I saw headlights a ways away. So I pulled out to make u-turn.

At that moment, I saw a jackass who didn't have his lights on.


I couldn't do anything but floor it. I nailed the accelerator and red-lined it.

The 4runner broke traction. Both rear tires spun kicking the 4runner sideways down the right side of a highway. I then counter steered but kept the accelerated pinned and it spun sideways the other direction.

Then it straighten out.
