V8 Exhaust Help

I am looking to upgrade muffler and ditching the resonator. Gona side exit the tail also. I have eliminated Magnablow due to Shit customer service. Looking at Gibson, Flowmaster, Dynomax VT, Borla. I have searched to narrow down choices. Just want experiences good or bad on some listed especially long term. Any others I missed please include. Want something that isn't stupid loud, that sounds good when ya hit the gas but somewhat tame when cruising. Cat Backs I think are a little out of the price range right now.

I would say take a look at the Borla system but you said you didn't want catback. Two other options that should be more of what you want are the Vortex, and JAOS links down there in the PERFORMANCE tab on the link I sent you.

That is actually where I ordered my Borla kit. I love it but that's me.
 
My 2003 v8 came with a Flowmaster 40 series installed by PO. This is exactly as you described: not loud, but sounds great when you get on it. Very nice sound at cruise, one can hear the engine, but it is a pleasant sound, no droning. Sounds really nice at start up as well. Quite happy with the Flowmaster, Runner certainly does not sound Japanese now...gotta love a v8

Any free flowing muffler would be a good option. Borla, Magnaflow, dirtydeeds. Flowmaster's are terrible.

If it's any help to you, I'm in the same boat as you and have narrowed my choices to Borla or Dirtydeeds.
 
In my experience the upgraded exhausts don't sound all that great on the V8...until you start breaking the muffler in after 20k miles. That's when I started liking the sound of my Flowmaster.
 
I specifically did NOT want drone. I've had drone before on other trucks. I've used magnaflow, flowmaster, powerflo, and thrush in the past. This time I did not want any of those because they all DRONE.

So I stumbled upon the Dynomax VT. It's specifically advertised as the NO DRONE muffler. That's for me! Ordered one up and I freaking love it. It's loud enough to let you know there's a V8 under the hood. You can hold it up in the air and see straight through the other end so you know it's free flowing. But at the same time, it's whisper quiet while cruising at 55 on a flat stretch of highway.

I love it. And as if that wasn't good enoough...the price smokes the competitors. I got mine for less than $90 bucks from Summit Racing. I got the 3" center in/3" offset out. Worked perfectly.
 
I'm getting the Dirty Deeds exhaust installed on Saturday, check the build thread for before & after sound comparison and a short review. Also getting my exhaust tip routed to the side and removing the tail resonator.

What size muffler are you going with?
 
Borla, DirtyDeeds, Dynomax, all sound like some great options. Any feedback would be sweet on these in particular. Thanks for the replies to help me make up my mind.

I'm going to get some audio clips put up once mine is installed so you can get an idea of how it sounds - if I had the time/money to spare I'd run it on a Dyno before and after.
 
Flowmaster super 70 II

I would check out this one almost same size as oe muffler designed for suv sounds good on my v6 bet it would be really tight on the v8 !
 
That sounds kind of like what [MENTION=50591]gaterose[/MENTION] was describing to me today. Do you get the drone on the highway? When I was looking at them there were different variations. Which one did you get?
