V8 Exhaust Sound and Video Clip Compilation Thread

Not sure but try youtube?

Anyone know more specific details on this one?

Well' if you haven't found out for sure yet, the best thing I can offer to really know is you could go to youtube and try to contact the original video poster? Hopefully he can tell you its real setup, if so let us know what all was done to get that fantastic sound..
It's down right mean sounding for sure and my guess is it's the "Super 44" mufflers but I'm only guessing here. :sorry:

Here is mine that I've posted a few other places as well. I've removed the resonator after the video and it has made it a bit louder, especially at startup and idle - you can hear the exhaust "burbling" in a parking lot more. Check my thread for more info.

Thanks Inv4drZm
I've been reading up on resonators, wondering if I should keep mine when updating my muffler to a Super 44 or 40 (maybe?).
fwiw:
From what I read on resonators they just keep certain frequencies in check to keep the drone down and that is about all so Inv4drZm if you run a regular tail pipe in its place it should quiet down again if you want but if it drones that will stay unless it's replaced again. Although it can change too with added pipe length.

I've decided to keep mine on just to see how the exhaust sounds after install then if everything is too quiet I'll chop it off and run a pipe out the side.
It is just damn ugly, in the way & imo too big for off road vehicles.

When/if I ever catch up to my old friend that used to work in local muffler shops for yrs I'll update to duels and experiment some but he seems to be mia at this point. He's good at it & don't mind trying different ways to do stuff.
The cost on exhaust work where I live is down right criminal and you get what you get when done, all at your high price. Just real Richardheads around here I swear.
Thanks Inv4drZm, that really is a nice rig you have and it sounds great on video. I checked out your build thread too, keep up the nice work it really helps us all to learn and is greatly appreciated by us here I assure you.

A little loud for my taste but I'll throw it in there. This is a true dual setup with flowmasters and high flow cats

<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hPy0KPa9oFc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Love this sound!!

Too loud my arse...lol

Love this sound!!

OMG me too man...Its awesome no doubt!!
My ol'lady would be so pizzed, she thought my old 91 Toyota pickups 4cyl was loud with a flowmaster 40 and tail pipe just past the rear end. :crybaby:
I would have thought after having my old 69 Dodge SuperBee with headers/glasspacks/3" tails to bumper for 12 yrs would have cured her but notta. Talk about DRONE!!! :yield:

What high-flow cats is he using?

Is this the muffler he is using? Search Results

I just bought new headers for my 4runner, want to add this muffler with the high-flow cat and I'll be in heaven.

Ok' hobosapien. Heres all I can share for fwiw?...
When the video starts out there are a couple snap shots of the exhaust. At 6 seconds into clip it shows/says "magnaflow high flow cats" and at 11 seconds into his clip it shows "2 Super 44" mufflers sitting sideways side by side. No part numbers are shown on mufflers/cats but 4Runners are 2.5 in diameter pipe so I'm assuming that still remains here?

So' I believe (guessing style) his mufflers are a set of either Flowmasters Part #: 942546 or 942549 ?

These are the Super 44 Flowmaster mufflers here, pick the in/out style needed for your app but this is the muffler he used -link:
Notice the red air flow arrows direction, these can't be turned around. Flow only one way!!
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/?page_id=11098

They are "offset going in" but we can't see the exit side to see if they are offset or center but I think its offset towards the 4Runners floor like part # I gave you but only guessing?

Not sure if it really matters much, but I myself would want the exit pipes as high as I could get them for ground clearance.

FWIW:)
Knock off Magnaflow Mufflers sold here by FloPro. No 44s but 2 chamber 40s and single chamber 10s..May be others too? Genuine China parts!!
http://www.flopro.com/products.html

Also Thrush makes them as Thrush Welded Mufflers and Summit Racing makes them too...Were Made?? China ????
FlowMaster knock offs are sold elsewhere as Flowmasters Patent ended. Same sound but people say they are thinner but much cheaper.

Cats?
After visiting Magnaflows site looking for which high flow cats he used I am a bit foncused here?
Because' Magnaflow site says nothing about high flow cats at all on 4runner cats? Maybe all magnaflows are high flow idk as I've not dove into that subject "yet"?
My 2007 Magnaflow fed cats link...High flow? Put your vehicle yr in search box for your cats.
https://www.magnaflow.com/catalytic-converters/federal/products

But' if it is true what I found here about testing Mag cats I won't buy one until mine goes bad anyway, that is for sure.
Check the test out in link below.
Understand, its only one simple test so don't jump on me here..lol As I said I've not researched cats one bit, it's just a link I hit while asking google about Magnaflow vs Stock cats?
With today's cats being so much better than car makers made 30yrs ago when magnaflow first started up, it's more likely today's cats aren't too far behind magnaflow if at all?

It wouldn't surprise me if magnaflow builds a lot of the OEM cats today and flow high anyway.
I just doubt if a magnaflow cats a huge gain over stock cats made in the last 15yrs since car makers started puting hp back in vehicles again. To say the least, I'm sure most oem cats made now are basically magnaflow knock offs assuming they do flow the best and still pass emissions so why make anything far less quality while making them as they charge the new car customer for it anyway? We'd have to see Toyota truck/4runner dino results using brand new cats (not used) vs Magnaflows to really know for sure though.

Shows in link below you may get a minor hp gain. It's not enough gain to notice on the street, but maybe at a race track installing them but imo the sound could change some? As I stated, only one test here so idk??
It don't say if oem cat tested here was brand new but I assume it was and the yr of Civic is not stated and that really matters too imo, it could have been a very old model when a cat was damn near clogged when new anyway? Some old cats clogged so bad the car won't pull itself at 51k. Yes that car was bought new and just babied too bad and had 51k.
It was a 1985 V6 Pontiac Firebird and she never kicked it down to blow its carbon out so it clogged. Her GM cat warranty died at 50k, imagine that?

Anyway todays newer cats on a race track you could see a difference but certainly nothing you can feel in your arse dino meter like some actually believe after installed. Magnaflow is still the one I would buy today.. I think?...lol May just be damn good advertising today?

Sorry its so long post hope it helps.

This is my 05 v8. I had a FlowMaster Super 40 muffler installed recently. The engine is stock other than an aFe pro dry filter. When I first had the muffler installed, I had the shop keep my rear resonator on. There was almost ZERO difference with the muffler installed and the rear resonator still on so I had the shop chop it off and just weld a tip on with a little more piping.

Hey Alphanvmeric,
Any way you can do a drive around vid, windows up/down & light cruise /heavy throttle both so we can get a better grip on this sound?
I think its more what I'm looking for, not too over the top?

Was there a drone change at cruising speeds with resonator on/off and how bad is the drone while cruising around, even noticeable at all as I read that's all a resonators supposed to really do? :noidea:

I have an ol'lady who don't like noisy cars or I'd have it rumbling pretty good like the one with the true duels here no doubt. :croc:
Damn, that true duels clip sounds sooo nice and also does so much justice for the Toy V8 engines.
I caught it on youtube before! :eyebrows:

Thanks for everyone's help!!

First thing I done when I got my 4runner was cut the resonator off. Added a little depth to the exhaust note but did not necessarily make it much louder if at all. I have the Flow 40's and I love it. It does have a drone but with the radio it is hardly noticeable. It really only screams when you step on it but it doesn't pop at all. Windows down you get a little more noise but not over the top IMHO.

Well' then that sounds similar to what I read about the resonators being there just guarding us from in cab drone farts but not doing much +/- for sound level per say.

Also' took note about the 40 thanks. That is good to know because I was wondering about the 40 being very loud on basically a stock setup so' leaning towards the 44 but then there's more unwanted drone farts?
1 Reason was I had a 40 knock off (Pro Flow) on my old Toy truck and it was too quiet for me until I cut the tail pipe down to about a foot.
You ever wish your 40 had a bit more deeper & louder sound at idle like the 44 or is it plenty loud for your taste now?
And do you have any idea which 40 you have, I see 3 of them?
There's the original 40, Super 40 (I like its deeper sound in clips close to 44) then the 40 delta?
Thanks

??? If anyone has information how the Super 44 sounds on a stock 4Runner exhaust with/without its resonator let me know please? I can't help wonder how much drone they would have with the resonator still on but I may be the guinea pig albeit a bad one as I like'm a bit loud? Ya' my 4runner can be too...lol
Thanks again folks!!

Here's a link to all of the Flowmasters fwiw to anyone.

Flowmaster Street Mufflers - comes in Stainless Steel or Aluminized with choice of mild, moderate, aggressive, and very aggressive sound.

Peace!

I just put the super 44 on my 4runner, resonator removed, and had the tip turned out the side. It sounds perfect to me.

I had a flowmaster 50 series on my F250 years ago and knew there was no way that would be deep enough or loud enough for me so I gambled with the super 44. I love it.

It's got a good SB chevy kind of sound to me now.

I have the original Flomaster 40. It has good idle volume and drones hardest around 2000rpms. As a whole it is loud enough for my taste and i'm still young haha.

Oh man' FI460 you had me right up until you said it sounds like a government motors chevy...lmao

No' seriously that is good info as the 50 or Super 50 (SUV) is good enough for some but I've heard enough clips to know its too quiet for me also. Some SUV 50 clips without 3rd cat made me ponder a bit but I'm leaving things alone there for now.
Simple muffler I believe until cats go south then I'll get serious with a duel setup like hobosapien has. That's just Killer dude, I still want a shot of the routing around spare area PLEASE!

And thanks CJtapp

"Age? Here now young whipper snapper...lol"
fwiw: I'm 53 and one of my best friends passed a few years back at age 78 and he put glasspacks on everything including his 79 Dodge Magnum (Cordoba) he crammed a 440 big block into when he was younger (70yrs old).
I miss that crazy old turd kicker like hell. I still here him say'n:
"Don't you worry about me, worry'n about you, worry'n about me"
and "First your money then your clothes" when stuff's going bad.

lol..Anyway my point is you either love loud pipes or don't and those of us who do even want them on our casket. I don't think it goes away really.
If my cars quiet, rock n rolls cranked up, got loud pipes? My stereos down so I hear them, have to have one or the other at least.
Never travel in silence which drive's my ol' lady nuts.. She likes both but about half loud at most, not too much of either.

We always win, or I will "again soon" because we have steering wheel controls & a gas pedal so we can't hear them gripe one bit cause everything is loud & proud..hell yes..lol

Sometimes my tenderness shines bright and I remind her that she asked me to marry her 20yrs ago so it wasn't my damn idea for her to live with me....:D Real sweet like that so it warms her heart up good..lol

Thanks guys, sorry too long of posts "again" but you really helped me out.
I'm goin for broke and getting a Super 44 or Super 40 for the deeper tones whichever I find cheaper, I'm sure she'll just love a 44! If not she might buy a 45 and go all out Achmed..lol
I KILL YOU.. :uzi:

Peace!

UPDATE:
Wanted to let you guys in on a deal in case you want a new muffler or any parts with a $100 total?
I ordered my FM 44 today, #942547 as mentioned here thanks guys!! Presently Advance Auto sells it for 96.99 + tax/ shipping which will make the ol' (!) hurt pretty bad.
BUT' I added it to cart and ordered (1) Purolators newest 15k mile syn "Boss" oil filter #PBL10241 ($12) to try out and (1) standard Pure one for wife's car (easier changed), entered promo code TRT41 for $40 off a $100 order + free shipping to home making a total of 81.29 total for all.
Means FM Muffler cost 63.54, syn filter was 7.85 so I can live with this.
Also tried code TRT30 for 30% off $50 but won't give free shipping adding 16.xx? It's a great code & saved a bundle a couple yrs though.
If you know somebody real well working at Advance they can order items not in stock. Once it's entered into stores pc then you can online order it with a code and save but items must be in stock for store pickup or shipping is applied unless its free with code.

Surely this is not supposed to be done but secret friends in high places got G. Dumbya Bush in right? lol
So surely we can secretly save our country from too much silence. The USA is supposed to be loud & proud ya' know?
Thanks again everyone, hope you save a few bucks!

Last Update sorry to hog this thread guys: 44 is welded on and he installed the add on pipe section on front of muffler to move muffler closer to rear end fwiw for sound? I drove it about a week and it sounded really great but I wanted more sound and cut the resonator off and bolted an Advance auto 90 deg elbow on, exited behind rear wheel (Nickson #548705) 2.5 in/out.
Now' it's quite a bit louder and maybe too loud for an SUV for most, but I really do love its sound. So' it did make a big difference with resonator off on mine & most will love the 44 with an all stock setup. It's a great sound with or without resonator but if you cut that resonator off leave enough pipe in front of it to weld back on since it drones too. Strange how resonator removal makes a big difference on some but not all so my guess is the muffler choice/location?

PEACE!

Do you have the part number for the Super 44?

I posted this somewhere else, figured I would put it on here too. Stock manifolds and y-pipe, then open. No muffler just straight pipe and this was shortly after I broke the tailpipe so it ends right in front of the rear axle.

Can anyone help explain to me what is needed to install a Flowmaster muffler? Unlike the Magnaflow or Gibson kits, the Flowmasters are only mufflers. I am assuming there is custom fabrication that is still needed? Am I correct? I see everyone with Flowmasters have different tips and different routing.

Apologize ahead of time for the NOOB question. I am used to seeing or purchasing full turbo back, cat back, and axle back kits for my previous Hondas and Subaru. This is my first truck/SUV.
