V8 Straight Pipe

Here are a couple clips of my exhaust. Its a straight pipe from the y pipe flange that splits into duals out the back. Sounds a little too unrefined, like the gas is just coming out unevenly. I want it to sound deeper so i might replace the terrible stock y pipe with an off-road y pipe.

What I want it to sound like (Yes it is a coyote 5.0, but i love that high pitched roar that it gives. Especially under load when you can hear all the pulses individually, that's what i'm going for) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIoACxOa4cc

Today I installed the Gibson, stainless, side exit cat-back on my 2006 4Runner. The rest of the exhaust is stock and original.

I am not particularly impressed with the fit of this system. The tip angle looks weird, made worse by needing to get the pipe off of the crossmember. It also would not clear my trailer hitch, which had to be removed to get the truck back together. I am very upset about this. Had I known, I would have gone a different route. I now need to find a new hitch or modify mine to fit above the exhaust.

The sound is good, a little louder than I expected, but not offensive. I did my best with my cellphone videos below.

I have the same exhaust and mine fit the same. To make it worse when you hit the throttle hard and hit 3000 rpm it whistles like a pop bottle. mine bangs off the trailer hitch constantly. thought about getting one of the tips cut off and patch the hole.

Where's the Rumble?

Quiet like most others I hear sound tested, sorry that deeper bass rumble a V8 produces is just not there like it is with a Flowmaster Super 44. Wish I done a video before/after but I failed there..
A single Super 44 & resonator removed, any V8 can sound like real duals are installed because it's not just louder it sounds like it has some ballzzzz under the hood with the deeper tone the 44 mufflers have.,,:scared:

Listening to this Super 10, this muffler is louder than a Super 44 since it's smaller but that same deep tone is there in both Super 44 & the Super 10...

As I left the muffler shop in my Tundra after installing a Super 44 I had a hard time not squalling tires taking off in it for a few stops.
My OE muffler was choking it to death no doubt so I had been getting into it more to move it off the line without thinking about it.
My 4Runner was notably more peppy but nothing like the Tundra was but my Tundra had over 300k vs 4Runners 90k when mufflers were done.
Those large OE mufflers keep so much extra heat in the system especially after lots of miles not just the power/sound. That extra heat just isn't good for any engine so anything to help todays engines breath better is an improvement over those beasts. :tea:

4Runner V8 vs. Tundra V8 (4.7)

Hey everyone, I have read about the engines in these two vehicles being made in diffeeent places. Tundra engine made in America and the 4Runner V8 made in Japan. Although they are the same engine basically, I noticed after driving my grandfathers 2005 tundra, that with a stock exhaust system it sounded louder and different than my 2005 V8 4Runner sounded. I now have a glass pack, resonator delete, and secondary cat delete and it is loud. However I listen to the tundras with a simple flow master super 10 on YouTube and it sounds noticeably louder. Anybody know why this is?

What would the Y pipe sound like vs and x pipe or H pipe on this engine?

I sold my 07 4Runner and bought a 05 Tundra, both 4.7 trucks. I loved the 4Runner sound while driving mainly because the exhaust is indeed a bit shorter and had a bit more in cab sound. Not much more but noticeable yes. Is sound any different? Not in my mind just a bit louder due to shorter exhaust on 4Runner.

With resonator on 4Runner sounded more like the new HP engine cars today Mustangs, R/T Challenger etc., somewhat quiet until you nailed it. Loud enough at a drive up window you can hear orders. With Res cut off, piped to rear bumper it was much louder in/out with deeper tone. Shut engine off to hear orders and droned inside but I didn't care, loved it's deep sound.

But' the first thing to do if you want deeper sound leaning towards the old big block sounds in the day is to get rid of the glass pack and install a Flowmaster Super 44, not their 40, not their SUV muffler because the Super 44 is different I'd get two of them if money isn't an issue. Hard for me to say that as an old muscle car owner most of my life as I also love GP sound, I hate turbo/chamber mufflers but. Super 44 just has a deeper sound, they got it right. My son has their Super 10 on a Dodge Ram 4.7 and its very loud. It sounds good too but drones too bad.

As I said, the 44 has that deeper sound and even installed on a small block sounds like you have something under the hood.
Now' If installing duals make sure to have the spare tire in its place when installing because duels runs very close to it so you may not get spare back on afterwards. Always keep a crossover (Y/X) pipe, you gain high end but lose low end so gas mileage suffers from getting into it taking off.

I'd professionally install duals if I had money but make sure the installer has lots of experience, regardless make sure to let them know the 4Runners exhaust manifolds crack very easy so he won't let the exhaust hang down during remove/install, just keep it supported at all times!!

The resonator toned my 4Runner down quite a bit but the rumble is still there but I cut it off. It makes a big difference so try it with GP if you still have it around?

I took it off of the Tundra right off, it's smaller & in front of muffler on Tundra. I ran extra needed exhaust pipe in front of 44 and tail pipe to right corner as stock. It's great but I'd like it that lil' bit louder like 4Runner was. Same way on 4Runner, put the muffler as far back as possible to shorten tailpipe. More muffler sound imho...

Really missing that deep rumble/growl the 44 & Glass Packs offer though.
In fact this 4Runner sounds like the old 1976 Monza 2+2 (V8) sounded with the Turbo mufflers my wife drove in the early 80's.
You must not have Chambered race mufflers but basic Turbo mufflers like the Turbo shown in the link below? You may have either dual/single in/out instead but is this the muffler type thats on it? Turbo?

They really growl when hammering down, hwy drone at 65 mph is very low. With stock stereo up 1/4 way we didn't hear drone in my 4Runner, Tundra hear even less. I love the 44's on a V8.:trophy:
