V8 swap

I'm not exactly planning to do this but it's somethin I've new wondering....
Okay I've seen people putting the 4.7 toy engines etc. some of the 4.6? Small block chevy engines into the 3rd gen.. My question is, From what I've seen on the Internet all small block chevy engines share nearly the same block size. What stops people from putting in either one of the 5.7L (350cid) engines into a 3rd gen?

Why would you want the archaic 350 when you can have an aluminum block 5.3 Vortec? If you're going to hack up a 3rd Gen with GM parts then you'd might as well do it right to begin with. :D

why put a chevy motor in a toyota ? I never understood this, Why not just sell the toyota and buy a chevy ? :noidea:

Ahem... LOL

OK, so back in 96 when I bought my FJ62 there weren't the options of today. The Lexus 4.0 was about it. I originally swapped in a 5.7 Tuned Port because the technology was easy, and the adapters were available. I updated to a 5.3 in 2003, and I'm very happy with that set up. Today I'd stay Toyota at all costs, just makes more sense because the engines are available at good prices, and the adaptation has all been worked out.

I've been a Chevy guy all my life, except where I now own 3 Toyotas and only the Motor Home is a Chevy chassis. But the Land Cruiser crosses over.

Now I don't want to do any engine swaps, but let's talk SAS.

The tundra 5.7 would be sweet! I miss the power of my Tundra. That thing was a rocket ship and would tow just about anything.
If my little 3rd gen had that, I'd be going thru a lot of tires

Because we like toyota but toyota didn't offer a v8 option until the 4th gen, and the aftermarket support for the chevy products is so much more vast than that of the 4.7l 2uz and the 4.0 1uz. Most toyota support is overseas, which comes with higher costs due to shipping. Or spending time and money having a custom 1off part made for xyz.
When there's plenty of chevy engine blocks with extensive amounts of aftermarket backing across the United States, it's honestly just easier.
And since all small block Chevys parts are relatively interchangeable, the aftermarket parts are also more easily made and available. Just my .02

Back on topic, the main thing I'm going for is why isn't there anyone going for larger engines than the 4.7?
I remembered someone saying you wouldn't be able to fit a 350 in the engine bay, and ended up seeing somewhere else on google about swapping out cylinder heads with a 350sbc from one of the smaller displacement smallblock a and that made me thing "well if you can do that there's no way the engine is actually bigger and you should be able to fit it in a third gen..."

And if I were to do a crazy engine swap it would be one of the Diesel breed

That's completely incorrect about smaller displacement SBCs having smaller heads. All SBC blocks and heads have the same external dimensions, regardless of displacement.

Anyone who wants a 4BT needs to wheel with someone who has one. I have two trucks with 7.3 Powerstrokes, which are far from quiet, but the 4BT is the noisiest, most annoying engine I've ever had the displeasure of wheeling with. There's a cadence that they create unlike any other diesel.

Ive got a "buddy" whos has one in a 98 wrangler.. Never really thought it was too loud or overbearing. I dont know much about the swap except its great on the trail. ? .

It was jut a reference sorry about that.
And csp wasn't referring to the size but you're rephrasing what I'm trying to say :p
One of the smaller displacement ones uses a different cylinder head internal design for that engine an using it on the 350 increases compression.
:D soo were on the same page I just didn't state it completely.
The4.6 and 5.7L small block chevy engines are nearly identical in size, and I anyone out there craves that gnarly old school v8 power and happens to have an old chevy with a 350 laying around, IT WILL FIT. Haha.

Oh. You stated 350 so I assumed the older unit. The LS1 is actually 345CID.

If go with the Volkswagen 4.2L v8 tdi engine. Not a cheap step but I'd say an appropriate engine for a 3rd gen.

The 4BT is better off in the Frito-Lay trucks where they belong. If I wanted to do a diesel swap I would be looking at the 1KD-FTV from the Hilux. I'd love to know if a 1VD-FTV can be crammed in that engine bay as well. I won't get my hopes up about it though.

I've never understood the fascination with the 4bt, I've seen a 40 series landcruiser with one swapped in, and I was not impressed, it was the loudest, shakiest, noisiest engine I've ever seen, not to mention that it weighs a ton.

It's usually the "rollin' coal" crowd.

When I was mocking up my 5.7 to put in my 3RD gen the problem I was running into was clearance in order for it to fit the 5.7 and the Trans. Required fire wall modifications and Trans Tunnel modifications after that the engine would fit but the next problem was the Radiator there was much room for the engine pulleys to clear so it was just to much for the wallet to handle.
