Thanks, I did get a TB code but cleared it. The truck runs fine, smooth, plenty of power just wont idle unless I have the A/C on. I do have some crusty coolant build up on the top of the TB. I check obvious things like the air box, vacuum leaks.

Definitely could be playing a part in your idle issue. Would be worth inspecting the throttle body closer and maybe a good clean. I’d check throttle body electrical connections as well as the MAF?
Very likely the TB needs a good clean as per Captain Morgan' reply. The fact that it'll not stay idling @ 500 - 600 rpm ( normal rpm with engine @ operating temp ) and only idle w/AC on is engine ECM automatically increase engine rpm when AC is activated ( to counter extra load on engine).
FYI, after TB clean-up, engine on start up will go up to 2000 rpm which is normal as its ECM relearns idling parameters. It'll go back down to normal ( 500-600 rpms ) after a couple of start cycles.

My introduction to this problem was back in '98 with my '95 Grand Cherokee w/V8. Out of the blue, engine started dying at every intersection w/lites/Stop signs. Needed a light touch on the throttle to keep engine from dying. Garage mechanic showed me the magic cure - a can of throttle body cleaner. I keep one handy from that day on. Just cleaned the TB on my '05 4R w/V8 this past summer as a PM step. Happy motoring !
