Vacation trip: appreciation of 4Runner.

Just want to share: Just came back from family vacation. We went to Red River, NM to runaway for Texas heat. Weather was great: 72-75 during a day and 45 at night. Put 1600 mile on the truck. 300 miles were around Red River and trails. Trails took around 90 miles; most of them were crawling in 4Lo at elevation from 9000 to 12000 feet. The only vehicles I saw there were dirt bikes, 4-wheelers and some rented Jeeps (short base, 2 doors). Nobody else dared to try their SUV or trucks on the trails we went.:
Truck performed absolutely awesome through the trip; on the trails it was also so quiet especially comparing with sounds of thin-can Jeeps. V8 did’n broke the sweat and I always felt that I have plenty more power on any given moment. ATRAC performed amazingly as well especially on wet rocks. My biggest concern was ripping the tire on the sharp rocks, but "REVO 2" past the test with no problems.
My average gas mileage was 19.7 (calculated) that included trails and 74 mph on hwy with cruise control on.

Overall I do not think you can find better and more refined SUV for trips like that. Where you can take on vehicle that allow you explorer the mountains, ride on trial and still feels like a “Lexus” on the hwy!

Thank you! I wish I would take pictures of the truck on those trails as well….it is just not easy with two kids…. I guess that is a price we pay for having “ragrats”.:cry2:
I will try take pics next time: I am sure we will come back to those places in a year or so.

I do not remember name of the trails, we were exploring, so we would just turn when we felt like it…. but you are correct one of them was “Greeny Peak” and another one was “midnight meadows”. Both of them had awesome views!
