VAIS iPod adptr (AIC-100i) for JBL systems

Summing up on the VAIS
I would really appreciate confirmation on the following thoughts:
Goal:
1) integrate ipod with 2003 Ltd. premium JBL w/6disc built in changer, does not disable 6disc changer. Maintain the highest possible sound quality
2) control ipod with built in controls; track skip search forwards and back, playlist skip (steering wheel and HU buttons)
3) see ipod track names and info on the stock HU
4) charge ipod
5) be able to use ipod controls directly if necessary (by passenger on long trips for example)
6) have an additional AUX in for future use (sat radio, dvds on laptop etc)
7) may not be accessible by the rear seat users, but it doesn't eliminate them from other normal operation.
Can I get a little more info on "hands on" usage? for example:
Get into runner, plug ipod into some sort of dock or connector? Turn on stereo, select "cd" (which will be ipod). Choose from preset play lists? (6? 99?) then choose song and enjoy?
Thanks, I really want to move ahead on ipod integration. I was also considering an aux in (e.g. PIE) then adding the Harman Kardon Drive and play.

However, this involves getting the aux adapter, then the additional drive and play screen and controller. Not a factory look either.

Answers:
1) Meets both.
2) You can skip tracks and playlists, but there is no fast forward or searching. Both HU and steering wheel controls work.
3) Playlist names, and track names will display on HU, but you choose between which one (can toggle between)
4) Yes.
5) No, not while it is in use by the VAIS, unless you use the "simple" mode which disables text.
6) Yes.
7) If you mean, the Rear entertainment controls, I don't know -- don't have them any longer.

Leave in 4Runner, get in, and it starts where you left off. Or, you can switch modes to get to the iPod -- which is essentially treated as a second CD player. "CD 1" will be displayed and it comes just after your in-dash CD player. From there, you can move to whatever play list you choose, or you can hit the "random" button on HU and just let it play. You can take it out anytime and plug and play.
Glitches/Bugs:
When HU has been turned off before turning off ignition, first time to switch mode to iPod, it acts dead -- no sound, no text. I think this is a bug b/c the iPod essentially goes into sleep mode where the drive shuts down. If you simply switch modes and come back to it, it works fine. This is not an issue if you just leave the HU on and turn truck off, and back on.
Sometimes, text just doesn't display-- seems random.
Last night, when hearing track I like and wanting to just start playing that whole album, I hit the random key on HU to stop random play. The next song was correct, but the text displayed the title of another song, and kept doing this as each track advanced. If during a song, I hit the random key (turning it back on) the correct song title would display.

I think there is really no diff re: your qs for a single vs. 6disc, so I'll assume that in my answers

2) Input for iPod clearly labeled. Other set can be used for sat radio, but I don't have anything there yet and can't offer much input.
3) http://www.vaistech.com/home.html. Don't know model number, but it is the SoundLinq. Contact Eugene via email. I think you can only buy direct from them. Let him know you are a member of this forum and ask for the group buy price $220. I bet he'll do it.
4) It is a little anxiety provoking, personally, to remove the center console and dash-- if you've never done it before, like me. But, relatively easy to do b/c of the excellent instructions aleady online. It is a plug and play, so no complications once you're in. It can really be done in less than an hour.
