Valve Cover Gasket PN's

Hey guys, during my last oil change the service tech informed me that my Valve Cover Gasket had sprung a leak. After much searching, I had a HECK of a time finding the part numbers for the everything I would need while I was in there.

I called up my local dealer and this is the list of items they said they would replace, if they were doing it. Do you guys see anything they're missing?

Keep in mind that if you don't have a Supercharger you will need 2 of 17176-62040 for the intake manifold.

I also sourced the parts through Toyota Parts - Genuine OEM Toyota Auto Parts and Accessories and came to a total of $90.97.

Cant believe you didn't notice the leak on your own. My whole truck smelled like burning oil, it was dripping on the exhaust manifold lol.

My leak was very mild, not burning any oil, just moistening around the cover. A class 1, if you will. ;-)

See, that's what confuses me. My leak is as 'mild' as yours is, and yet I can easily smell it when I'm within about 5 feet from any part of the front.

Toyota tells me I need to get it fixed; EVERYONE else says "Eh you can wait if you want." I'll get it done in a month or two.

Try tightening the valve cover bolts. Seems stupid but both of my 4Runners had leaky valve covers. I tightened the bolts and they stopped leaking.

Also, Aircabinman sells a very complete VGC kit (all OEM) for like $40 on eBay.

That seems like a lot of parts. One kit I saw at AdvanceAutoParts just had the two valve cover gaskets and six spark plug gaskets. Are the rest of those parts really necessary?

For parts like those, you can save big bux by buying them from auto parts stores or ebay. Save your money for important parts like bearings, ball joints, etc. for Toyota OEM purchases.:hatsoff:

I waited a few months after noticing mine. No damage done.

The gasket only cost me 35 bucks from Advanced Auto


Edit: It comes as a set 1 box, both gaskets.

If it's bad enough to smell it burning all the time (oil on hot surface), it's bad enough to know it could possibly start a fire. Not only that but you're just letting oil leak all over your engine bay and for some reason not caring. I'd change them out sooner than later if it were mine. :nerd:

BTW, Thank you OP for these part numbers! My tacoma has been sitting while I've put this off and I'm going to go pick up the parts today. Guess all I needed was one less reason to be lazy about it.

What about the camshaft plug, PCV grommet, etc.? Is that overkill? I guess it just depends on the condition of the ones that are already there.

Camshaft plugs meaning the little half moon guys? They're in that list somewhere...

As far as the PCV, I didn't include it since it's so easy to do that without removing everything else.

Cam seal plugs are not reusable, the semi circular moons are. Replace the former, reseal the latter with FIPG.

I guess I am not familiar with the plugs.

I imagine they're in that list though, I remember the guy mentioning them.

I'm a little confused on the plugs, though. In some parts pics they look like a ring, in others it looks like a solid disc. And this is below the bearing cap?
