Hey everyone, I have an '02 and both vcg's are seeping pretty bad. Just looking for advice as to do it myself or take it to a shop. I plan on getting Toyota gaskets unless there are better ones for less $. I can do the job but don't have much time due to work and it needs to be done soon. How long does it take to do the job?

There are a few writeups floating around...just google them. Unless you are constantly dripping a steady stream of oil, it can be held off until you find time to do it yourself. Go with Toyota gaskets...no reason to spend less money if you're going to have to do it again after using cheap ones.

Thanks guys, I'm going to do it myself as soon as the weather gets warmer. It doesn't look all that bad after looking at the video.

I haven't been driving the 4runner much this past year but am now about to do the VCG's. I bought all OEM gaskets and seals but have one question. What type of gasket sealant do you guys recommend for the couple areas it's needed?

generally I don't use it on vc gaskets. I did however use it on my 4r this time because the old ones only lasted a few months and the 3.0 sucks to do these on. I use Toyota Seal Packing rtv. best stuff ever.

5vze is cake.
