35's! 35's! 35's!

Sent from the drivers seat of my 05 4runner.

Found another set BFGs 315's for 150 - they look to be in perfect shape - reached out to him, if I can get them for that, may be ordering a body lift ASAP and then doing some cutting but not much of anything till body lift is done. I didn't want to run 35's till i could regear, and when i regear i want arb's front and rear, so that's not happening for a while lol.

Ya, the body lift helps a lot. My V8 doesn't care about the tires, but from what I've read the V6 does. Keep old tires and if it's horrible swap back, sell the 35's and use profit towards new 33's.

I have the 8 as well, and i'm not worried about he power but he mileage loss lol. In my past experience the gear swap gets me back to same power, and typically if i had a 3-4 mpg drop when i did tires, doing the swap in gears will get the mileage to within 1 or 2 mpg.

Looking at funds I have no money to buy tires right now, so have to pass on both sets of 315's, which is fine by me - just getting pissed about to make my 3rd call to Advance to get my other cv sent to me - when i called the other day they stated would get a shipping number and the new axle coming, have no verification nor shipping notification yet. Now i'm pissed as my upper control arms arrive tomorrow, lower balljoints are here, spacers are here, everything is here but one of my Axles and I ordered and paid on Oct 21st!!

V8 with 35s is best runner. that is until i finish my 89 with 37s. but if you wanna get serious with your 4th gen look into doing the metal tech LT rear suspension. makes a world of difference when wheeling it. oh and UCAs, those are pretty much mandatory. looks good so far.

Since i"m looking to go used tires initially - and have been watching them for around 3 months - I'll probably end up with used 315's as they are typically cheaper, and right now in the area I have 6 sets of 35's and 315's for sale in Space Coast of Florida, if I want 285's I have to go north of Orlando ~ 60-75 miles for a decent set of used but with the 285's I can get a new set of Falken Wildpeaks for 560 delivered.... The thing with the 35's is I need the bodylift first, so it's moved up on my list;-)

As for the suspension - Yeap the rear will be Metal tech when I do the good suspension setup. The front I'm still deciding on but for now - thinking the 1.5" Roger brown and run the steering spacer, and alot of the sliders and bumpers have the 1.5" option and it seems like its 1.5 or 1" option only so I'll just do the 1.5, did it on my last 2nd Gen and worked great a the matched up - for the rear of this one I already have a plan to make that rear step work until I get bumpers;-)

Now in all honesty on the metal tech rear, I'll probably have sliders, skids, headers, custom y-pipe to the magnaflow catback, tires for certain, full length roof rack then i'll probably do the better suspension as I want to know exactly how i want my suspension built for weight and rear tire carrier etc. I'm planning on a rear storage setup as well sooner rather than later - about to go make a little 550cord setup for hanging my workout clothes when i come out of the gym as well as my towel everyday.

Anyway, can't wait to get all the parts in - was a ridiculous busy weekend, so hope i have all the parts in by the time I can tear into it this week or weekend. Cruzado, the SPC arms arrive tomorrow:) So got that part covered:)

Personally a SAS kit from allpro would be best!

Sent from the drivers seat of my 05 4runner.

I used thier kit on my 86 when I did the SAS on it - I have to say now - only part of the "kit" I would buy would be the front hanger, the rest is better if you measure and do it all yourself, the hardest part for me was steering and the kit had nothing for steering anyway, hell mine didn't come with shocks just hoops and I had to do custom measurment for front shocks which kinda pissed me off, I ended up running some like Bronco2 rear procomp 9000's in the front as they had the perfect travel I was looking for and they were cheap as hell, but that was a LONG time ago, back when my favorite place to buy from was Downey, Man I miss Downey catalogs:(

Now I have some of you wondering - I did the SAS on my 86 4Runner in 2002;-) I actually traded a set of 33x12.50's on Crager Soft 8 black rims for the 4Runner in pieces, the tires were going on my T100 I had at the time but decided i wanted a trail pig, so traded streaight up - engine was in pieces and front diff was good - my T100's front diff was exploded and they bolted directly in, and both had 4.10's. So I took the block and head to machine shop, bought enginebldr internals, had them work the engine - 800 bucks later had a brand new to me 22re with a bad maf, bad injectors, and a happy ass individual:) Got it stragithed out and realized my trail pig had no 4wd, started looking and found a 84 front axle with 4.88's. The rest is history:) Miss that damn 4Runner - when I sold it a guy came from Indiana to Florida and bought it:/

The kit for our platform is complete. You can get the steering parts, shocks, everything. I've talked to a couple guys running that kit now and all have been very satisfied.
I have put a lot of thought into custom building one, and may still, but all the geometry figured out is a real plus! Lol

Yay!

All parts are in the CV showed up but the tire convo is on hold, damn money tree ran out again, grrr

Wife has plans o Saturday so looking like a Sunday teardown and install for the front:)

Loved every minute perusing this thread...and you have a beautiful home.

Thanks man I bust my ass and use my brain for it;). When the wife and I met we were both fairly successful she was a program manager for Neilson TV ratings, however about 2 'onths before we got married she quit. Has taken us some time to get back to where we can actually do stuff to the house but home ownership in Dlorida is actually not bad! House was built in 2013 and is ridiculous "in my opinion" at 3900 square feet.... I had a nice house when I was singled and father of my older two kids that had a pool and 2400 square feet.

We stand to make out pretty good when we sell as we got this house ridiculously cheap due to an error that we caught and well, exploited:). The going rate in the neighborhood was 124-128 a square foot when we bought, we paid 64;). There a long great story there but when I corrected the error the value of the house went up 124k and we have done quite a bit to it and the value of houses have went up in my area since we bought this one in early spring 2014.

As for enjoying the read, thanks I can say if I could access it while at work occasionally it would probably have more jokes and just random "ideas" as well as a ton of useful calculations and crap. On my desk at work I have the tire weight of Every mud terrain and all terrain tires made in the 285/70/17, 285/75/17 and quite a few 315/70 as well. I have a scribble/drawing if a boatside done on my Runner to include some rough cad drawings but I may end up using them to make my sliders and have some recessed bolts that allow me to make it a "partial boatside" I could go on but I have days of waiting for launches as we can't go out 4 days before or after launches for our inspections so we have fast and slow days at work.

It also seems my damn engineering mind is not happy being bored so my idea of fun is research lol. In older and recent build threads in other forums always get a lot of likes for the info I post eventually when I go full on with jubsusoension I'll do stupid levels of research on shocks bore size, foam internal collars bs tradional, nitro bs gas, spring rates all that crap before I buy.

Just went and looked, the kit how I would buy it is rather expensive also for this v8 we have I'm not running birfields....I will say it is more complete than it used to be when they first started them but I do like that ours is not leafs in the front... Hmm, may be a "solid"consideration in a few years, for now I'm just happy I have all the parts I need for the front to make it last till I possibly have the funds and time for a sas:)

You can use whatever axle you want, they make the mounts to fit it. I plan on newer Ford axles myself. There's more to the kit than the description, I had to talk to people with the kit and then allpro themselves to figure it all out. Pita! Lol

Hurting now

STarted around 11 today did the following - just walking in:

SPC upper a-arms
Moog lower ball joints
Revtec diff drop
Changed front diff oil
Both front CV's
Greased All zirk fittings
Installed Wheel Spacers
Changed transfer case gear oil
Changed oil and filter

All of it would have went great - but getting the lower ball joints out - even with the good tool - sucked ass. I gave up and beat it out with a sledge, then honestly to do everything on the passenger side was less than probably 90 minutes.

Got it all together took a drive and my camber was way way off - so I jacked up front and slide it all the way in on the upper arms. Have that Sears alignment will get it scheduled for Tuesday more than likely to have them dial it back in;-)

I will say, with the diff drop, and spc arms, I need longer front brake lines - Oh no sway bar now but may have to put it back in to limit the droop - crazy freaking travel and cv angles look fine so may just leave it honestly...

Can't wait to see it with the spacers on, can't believe how much further those 1.25 spacers put the stock rims out - looked good but no pics. Was planning on cleaning and dipping the rims - but that didn't happen lol, I have to take the rims off and re-torque the spacers soon so will try to do at that time.

VA appointments

Had two VA appointments today - one at 8 and one at 1 so took the day off and in between ahd a little time.

Haven't got alignment yet and glad I haven't, found this little issue when testing flex out....

Yeap, so have my arms set to the 4.0 positive setting, and honestly have them slid all the way in as had to drive a bit before alignment and the camber was BAD. Anyway, looks like i'll be moving mine to the D location for the +2 and going with that for now, Iwill say this only happens when fully flexed aka droop on this side and turned, so it's fairly hard to replicate, but it's there so I will fix it:)

Sky and Ground, all I can see, front top of trees back the ground in the rearview:)

Hmmm,

on this one will see how bad it is once it's cleaned up - Need tires and sliders:( Drug this pretty good but kinda covered in mud right now - Oh well exactly why I didn't buy new, would hurt alot more!

Had to go to Orlando to one of the VA clinics so took the long way home and actually found one of my old playing spots that's not posted! I can tell you I have taken around 7 4wheel drives out there from 9" of lift and 37's to my lifted and locked Wrangler TJ and this slightly lifted atrac equipped Runner did everything and more even with the stock tires. Can not wait till I get tires and some protection!

Most of this is sugar sand, can't believe it just would walk up it!

I would get an alignment first. May just be doing that because it is off. I have mine at +4.5* and haven't had an issue.

I already changed them to the middle setting, and did eyeball alignment, I could tell on the drive to Orlando and back I was pushing the front end more than normal and can't wait to get the alignment, tried on Saturday and they were booked have an appointment at 4 tomorrow:) I'll be happy with anything over 2 honestly, only reason I changed was balljoints were bad so getting over 2 will help.

Alignment done today right after I picked my oldest daughter up - Super happy with Sears and the groupon alignment - 49 about a 45 days ago and got it redone today - holy balls batman - with my SPC upper arms set at the 2.0 setting I came back with 3.6 caster driver and 3.4 passenger which is right where I was hoping to be:)

Camber is at 0.0 on both sides now, and Toe was WAY off after the rebuild but now at .04 driver and .05 passenger but let me tell you - it drives so damn good now, got to hear the Runner when they were driving it as well - first time hearing since I put the muffler in - not nearly as worried as I was before, sounds damn good outside and pretty quiet unless really romped on. Super stoked and happy with the 4Runner right now:)

And while walking killing time waiting on alignment:)
