I always say why do a MOD once right when you can do it two or three times?

Driver side window didn't go up as quickly as it usually does.. Then I noticed some sticky residue on my inside widow... And figured out before I damage the window motor (anymore than I might have already) I should figure out what was going on in there. I thought it was maybe some sound deadening came loose but nope same problem I had with the hatch window, the kappa crossover came loose and got it the way... Quick fix but I should have gone back and double checked the doors after I had an issue with the rear hatch instead of my wait and see approach...

I often wonder if one day I'll run into one of the 4Runner engineers and show them my truck and they'll say "wow looks good I like what you did with...wait wait hold on... is that duct tape and zip ties holding that on?! It took me years literally years to archive the desired look while making it safe and functional and with a dremel and tape you managed to destroy it in a half hour!"

International 30" Truck Box Black - Tools - Tool Storage - Truck Boxes



So found this box at sears... Thinking it would be a great way to store the few things I wanna haul around and easy to take out when I need to fold down the seats to sleep in the back when my GF throws me out... (((She found some parts receipts while organizing for tax time and isn't too happy with me, she calls the truck her rolling ring)))

But I am thinking its super thin so going to have to add lots of foam in it to cut down on the rattle... But I think a rubbermaid plastic bin that I am storing X-mas lights in the garage would work even better... But the gobi box on the roof still might be the best bet cause then its out of the way....

It would be more money, but I think a pelican case might be better for cargo storage / something you could strap to the roof.

I used a big one before I built the drawer.

Those cases are real nice... Just looking for a simple option for the tool box jumper cables and straps for day to day... Pelican is real nice but I know I would get a big one and load it up with heavy weight and over kill stuff that isn't needed for my 10 mile highway commute every day... I would end up carry a small arsenal and way to many tools, flash lights and other stuff that would be great for an apocalypse but heart breaking if a scummy scumbag broke into my truck when it's parked somewhere....

For temp use I went to Lowe's and picked up a black plastic case for about $30. Strapped it down with a 48" bungy and it works great. I found it in the tool box area. I can take a pic of it later if you like?

So my only day off for a minute and wanted to do a little modding while this weather is amazing... In a month it will be over a 100 and even hotter in my garage so modding will be less fun...

I planned on installing my battery replacing the factory battery with the Diehard but I just spoke with Lisa at BUDBuilt and she told me that the AUX battery tray will be up on their website in the next 2 weeks... So now I am stalling on putting it in... I know we have heard these rumors before on the battery tray and Sidewinder tray would work just as great...(I know it's just a piece off metal that holds a battery and relocates the res.) But I was overly impressed with the quality of my budbuilt sliders so I think it's worth waiting a few more weeks to see if the come available...

Soooo now maybe redo the plasti dip on the rims and badges?

Me and micki one seem to have become 1-uppers when looking at different storage boxes... But since I have limit space and still want to use my sliding tray and be able to remove it quickly I'll probably end up building a wooden box in that space... Nothing fancy with drawers and no need for a lock since then I would have to find a way to bolt it to the floor securely to make the lock useful... mostly use it to keep stuff from rolling around and out of sight.

I was told a couple of weeks ago that they would post when the tray was ready. I've held off on my sliders until he tray comes out so I ca get them shipped at on time. Now, I know who she was talking about when I called her last.

Not meaning to jack your thread, but that picture brought back a funny story.
About 8 years ago I had a liften 82 Chevy Blazer, about 12 of us crammed into this thing and went to the Sahara Casino to ride the rollercoaster (Know how low that parking garage is Vegas??)
Anyway I decided to go home by myself and found that I couldn't get out as with me being the only person in the truck it rode higher that when I came in. I had to let a shit ton of air of of the tires to get out of the parking lot, then limp to a gas station to air back up...LOL Ahhh the good old days.:fro:

Carry on, and I know exactly how you feel about how hot it get's in my garage, it faces west and in the afternoon it gets over 100 inside my garage.

That sounds terrible... At least you noticed before you messed up the roof... Good thinking on deflating the tires... I would have probably bought a bag of candy and tried to lure chubby children into my car.

Gobi Tool box

So I decided to go with the Gobi Tool box...I went with this option to try to keep my cargo area free, since I fold down the seats and use it to haul stuff often... not too bad for the price point, it's solid construction like what you would expect from Gobi products. (((although I am going to be bummed if SOcalTRAIL decides to go into production with his tool box...))) I would have liked it better if they made the box the complete length of the rack, that way it could hold a little more gear... but until I learn to weld and fabricate it will have to do.





Next Mod I will be replacing the Infinity Sub and going with an under the seat style sub... unless I can find a way to get one built in to the storage space on the rear passenger side.... I have been redoing my Garage lately and have been hauling lots of stuff in the truck and taking the sub in and out to be able to fold down my seats is getting annoying. :frusty:

How big is that Infinity sub? I wonder if you can squeeze that sub into the space where the factory JBL sub goes, with some persuasion of course.

I don't fear the dremel.... My only issue is its battery powered so I have to destroy my truck in 5-10min intervals... There is a sweet thread around here of someone who made their own box to fit in that spot... See I would think you just cram a sub in there and maybe add some carpet or vinyl to make it look pretty but apparently there are equations involved with speakers size and the room and volume and it involves decimals and you have to carry the one to figure out how to make a sub fit in a box then in that spot... the right way... Way over my little brain... So that's why I am thinking under the seat is the way to go... Although I recently found out a neighbor used to do installs at an audio shop for like 20 years it might be time to make friends with him and see if he could give me some pointer on building a box.:hail:

You know what I always say, why do the Mod once when you can do it twice?

So I was at Bestbuy and I saw that they had a Kicker sub in the open box area. It had some scratches and was missing the manual and mounting hardware... so with a little negotiating I got the sales guy to take more off, so I couldn't resist. The install was pretty basic since the wires were already ran for the infinity sub, I just had to cut them shorter and switch the remote and remote cable.

The infinity sounded great and could really bump haaaaard and was a great solution for that low end bass.... But the location wasn't ideal for me. I am really surprised at how well the little kicker can thump and fill the low end bass for its size. I had originally thought down the road if it wasn't enough I would get another low profile sub under the passenger seat but its not needed. Long story long...


I finally got the back of my truck back!!! pulling out the subwoofer every time I had to dispose of a body was becoming way too annoying. Plus I regained access to my mini storage area that the sub was sitting on. I forgot how great that storage cubby is for ratcheting straps or a samurai sword.
