I DO NOT recommend you just putting it in your glove box. That will be most likely against your SOP's or GO's. I know that if I had to take a report for a stolen firearm where someone said they had it locked in their flimsy plastic glove comparent I would just look at them to let them know they were an idiot! I also looked into a console safe and they don't make one that will fit. My buddy has one for his Tundra and that thing could like like 7 or 8 pistols!!! Friggin huge and extremly well built. But once again we get the shaft.

I see police officers drinking with their weapons on all the time during police week in DC ( I work this with my departmen as part of the Peer Support Team). If for some reason i have my gun on and go out drinking, even one drink, the gun goes in the safe I have linked in the post above. If one of my buddies is doing the same thing and I am sober drive, they put their gun in my safe. I agree that you should carry your gun as much as possible (always be prepared), but at certain federal landmarks in DC you must secure your gun outside (US Dept of Printing and Engraving) so it is great having a safe in the car.

Totally understandable that your GF's parents don't want a gun in the house. Perhaps they will be more understanding once you are an LEO. Couldn't hurt to have the trigger lock with you just to give them some peace of mind.

I'm not sure what the pistol range situation is around your neck of the wounds, but try taking your GF to one and let her have a go. Careful though, newbies usually get the shakes

And as a total aside - not all LEO's carry full time...and what really annoys/aggrieves me is seeing LEO's (or indeed anyone with a carry permit) drinking alcohol at a bar while carrying. So reckless.

I am a police officer in VA and have the following safe in my truck. What I like about it is that I can take it out if I want to move it to another vehicle, like my wifes if we take hers on vacation. It is very well built, and is large enough to put 2 Glock 23's in there. I higly recommend it.

What is reckless about carrying and drinking? If your judgment is so poor that a few drinks makes you dangerous, perhaps you shouldn't be carrying at all.

Obviously its not good to get black out drunk and carry, but there is a point where you have to make the decision for your self if you should stop drinking for the night.

it against our general orders, so if you get caught you get fired. The number one thing they say to not do at ALL firearm safety courses and training is to not drink and carry! In some jurisdictions it is also illegal, especially to carry into an establishment that's primary function is to srve alcohol (ie-bar)

As for he large fitting into the center console, I don't believe it will fit, and if it does there is nothin to secure it to. I have it wrapped around the seat track under my drivers seat.

Hmmm, apparently I'm not getting e-mails on my phone for new responses to my threads...

But yea, I started last week at my department, and so far I just unload the Glock before I get in her house, and pretty much just stuff it into the bottom of my gym bag.
