Vehicle Storage of Dog Ramp

Hi, newbie here. Getting a 4th gen 4R here soon and have been browsing the forums for a few weeks.

I'm going to be buying a telescoping dog ramp for the 4runner (for my two 100lb dogs that are getting old and arthritic) but I've been trying to figure out what to do with the ramp when it's not in use. Sure I could keep it on the second row seats, but I'd like that space free for passengers and groceries/equipment/etc.

I was wondering about having a mount installed for the ramp in the 4R but not sure where I should put the mount. Also I was thinking about having the ramp mounted with slide rails so that when needed, all I'd have to do is slide it out and then slide it back in when done using it - but where do I slide-rail mount it? I have no clue.

Anyone have any ideas or experience with a suitable place to store a dog ramp other than stashing it in the 2nd row seats?

PS. Also looking for a GRATED-dog barrier that extends from the top of the 2nd row seats to the ceiling (NOT the ones that go from the floor to the ceiling). If anyone knows of any, feel free to share please.

Are the dogs getting to be senior citizens or do you plan on lifting the T4R?

I have a 57lb (yellow lab) and a 95lb (boxer/lab). They get in just fine, nothing extra.

both actually, they have mild arthritis due to age and i also plan to lift a few inches (a ramp solves these problems for the dogs)

IMHO-

1) If the new T4R has the double decker storage in the cargo area remove it.

2) Cut a false floor out of plywood, cover it with cheap carpet and set it on 2x2's run longitudinally.

3) Slide the ramp under the false floor.:trophy: My guess is you're going to want some type of folding or telescoping ramp. The cargo area of the T4R is pretty short.

a friend of mine uses a spin around adjustable step/platform that installs in the hitch, just an idea, instead of a ramp. i myself have a folding aluminum wheel chair ramp that i use for my guys. it folds & can be stored in back but isnt exactly lite. can you tell me what brand of telescoping ramp your getting?

chaz, here's the one i was thinking about getting. i don't really care which brand i get, just as long as i can find a way to have the ramp mounted somewhere so i don't have to just "stash" it in the vehicle. at least if it's mounted somewhere it's out of the way and nice & organized.
