I know the feeling. I have always hated having a shop do work on my vehicles. But when I'm strapped for time and things need done, I don't have a choice. I had my brakes done at a shop and then rechecked about a month later because they were squealing. I then took a trip with my wife for our anniversary. Spent a lot of time and money on the trip only to have it ruined by the brake caliper mounting bolt disappearing. Thankfully it happened at low speed, not on the highway, and we had already made it to our destination city. I don't know what would have happened if it were at high speed.
The front left caliper lower mounting bolt came out and the caliper shifted out against the inside of the wheel. Completely locked it up. Inside of the wheel are a couple of nice gashes all the way around. It took a large amount of force to get the vehicle to move and when it did it felt like an earthquake inside it. Had to get it towed and had the bolt replaced and the spare put on. Spent my first anniversary at an auto shop, on the phone searching for the part(never did find the right one until we got home), and getting a rental car. I talked to the tech and he told me I don't know how that happened, I really tightened it with my impact wrench. An impact is not a substitute for a torque wrench!
I complained to the shop and they covered all costs and are replacing my wheel. I put up a stink, but the wife was the one who really let em have it. Still dealing with it as I haven't got the replacement wheel yet, but should this week. I will do as much work myself as I can from now on!
