Verizon to raise price of grandfathered unlimited data by $20

Verizon may soon be raising the price of its unlimited data plan for those who are grandfathered in if they are not under contract anymore. This report, which comes from The Verge, states that Verizon will be hiking the cost of the plan up to $49 a month, up $20 from the current $30 a month fee. The new $50 a month fee is just $5 more than the equivalent of having only 3GB of data on Verizon's current plans.

The change will only affect those who are paying month-to-month for their service, and the change will only affect less than one percent of Verizon's customers. With the price hike, Verizon will now be allowing those customers with unlimited data on the new pricing to take advantage of its device payment plans to purchase new smartphones. The change is apparently set to take place at the beginning of November.

I'm paying $87 a month for unlimited data, unlimited texts and 450min talk.

Their new plans look better than before

They are offering me 6Gb for $49 and unlimited everything else for a total monthly bill of $69.20

I also can get 12Gb total bill for $85


If they do raise the rates for unlimited I'll have to switch.

My wife, sister, mom, and I share 10gb. Between the 4 of us we rarely touch 3 much less 10. With nearly every place having wifi these days there's no sense in burning data unless you have to. Of course I'm sure the security paranoids will say otherwise but that's my two cents.

right now we have 40gb for $150 + 2gb promotion for 2 years (for switching out our 2 unlimited plans) for a total of 42gb month.

kids go thru about 8-10gb a month each, I go thru about 12-15gb (watching youtube during work breaks and waiting for the warden) and she goes thru about 3-5gb month.

we have as a family hit 39gb once.

frees up a lot of restrictions on what we can do on our phones since we don't worry about going over our limit.

Geez dude. That's a ridiculous amount of data. I don't even use that much when I use my phone as a hotspot.

like I said, when you don't have a low limit, you tend to do things you wouldn't do when restricted.

I run Pandora all the time, watch video's all the time, steam music at work when possible (this one is hard, open office no walls).

Pandora by itself just in the 4runner I burn thru 2-3gb in a month, and that's at the 64kb rate.

I've been with AT&T since 2007 and choose the unlimited data plan. Since then, I've been grandfathered with the unlimited data. Anyway, if AT&T raises the price, I'll be all sorts of angry and may even change carriers.

forgot to add, that $150 for 40gb was a very special rate, that same plan now goes for $300 and I haven't seen it at $150 ever since that special deal.

Unlimited data, text, and 450 min for about $60 a month here (with Verizon). I think my monthly record was 34gb, just me.

I work for the company so I've seen people with unlimited use 200+gb. I don't think $20 is a make you or break you deal. If that makes you spend a few hundred to switch carriers then so be it.

As someone stated, way too many Wi-Fi spots nowadays
