Good luck, most of the Limiteds I saw in the Bay Area were going for upper 20's to low 30's, especially with that few miles.

yeah we looked at that one... briefly. the salespuke was a real prick, the carfax wasn't exactly clean and the salespuke was trying to bs his way around the problems I found.
we got a really sleazy feeling for the place in general

I've look at the Limited but I don't care for their version of leather seats. The vehicle this will replace had leather, but seemed to be a better implementation than what we've seen in the Limited.
I like the 4.7L V8 and have it in my Tundra. If we didn't have that engine already, it's probably all I'd consider.
We're open to other colors but keep coming back to the white ones.
For the most part the differences in the Sport over the SR5 could be accomplished with aftermarket parts, but it seems like too much of a compromise to start with out of the gate.
I don't mind traveling a bit for a vehicle, but the East Coast is a bit of a hike for something that might not pan out. And I just won't buy one sight unseen and have it shipped.
There's no real urgency to buying to-freaking-day - I'm just tired of looking and like I said before, never had this much trouble finding a vehicle and I'm pretty picky.

Thats too bad... Should have assumed you had come across that one already... I cant believe some of the deals folks on this board have got on their 4Runners! Those deals do NOT exist in Colorado.

Man, I got my white 2008 Urban Runner with sunroof and only 7k miles last year for only $21k, which was what I was looking for. I looked for a few months but 6 months would have drove me crazy. I definitely agree that you should expand your search too but now that there is a limited supply of 4th gens, it's definitely tougher.

??? How? That books at like $30k!? 2wd? Salvage?
21k for a 2008 Urban Runner. If it's clean that is indeed a real steal. I paid 22,900 for a 1 owner clean 05 Sport with over just over 18,000 miles on it two years ago.

Timberline, it took me six months! I was not picky, all I wanted was a sport ed, any colour, minimal rust. All I could find were overpriced limiteds, or rusted out/banged up Sports Eds. I am happy with my find, even though it now requires a bit of maintenance.

We were extremely lucky.
Through connections, I happened to get my hands on an 06 V8 SR5 2WD with only 19k miles for oddly enough 19K USD. It was taken in for every squeak or pop by its owners who were a retired couple.
I looked all over Miami and the surrounding areas from the Keys to West Palm Beach and over to the west coast of Florida, but I kept find a lot of salvage or rebuilt stuff and the dealers were wanting the same price for the same year or earlier for roughly the same price.
We came close to taking something with a lot more miles, but ours was a case of just knowing the right people and being at the right place at the right time.

I feel lucky, after two weeks of internet searches I found my new to me 06 SR5 50 mles form hime with everything i wanted and more, clean carfax, 4x4,black, leather, sunroof, 3rd row (hence the more), 35k miles, out the door for $21.5. Picked it up on Saturday. My first 4R, so far we are happy with it.

I found mine 1 week ago, after searching about 3 months, but it was worth it.
it's a 2008 Limited 4WD with Xreas with... 1953 miles when I bought it!
it was a little more than what I wanted to spend, but low miles and used certified made me make the move.
Patience is key, it was 500 miles away, flew and drove the same day.

Update: Well it looks like we'll likely have one by the end of this week. We're down to two candidates that look equally promising, have cleared initial hurdles, and have dealers who are being reasonable in their pricing. We're in the final throws of negotiating between them. I'll post pics when the deal is done.

We were microscopically close to finalizing the deal on one today. All through the check-out process didn't find anything major just a few nitpicky little things - no deal killers.
Then.... we couldn't get 4Lo to engage. Uh-oh. Tried multiple times with and without the parking brake engaged. Always in neutral, always fully stopped just like you're supposed to. No dice.
Fine - called the local Toyota dealer to see if this is covered under the remaining drivetrain warranty.
Nope - it's electrical, not drivetrain and won't be covered.:gun4:
So call the sales manager for the dealer we found the truck at - wouldn't budge a dollar. :redbrick:
Told them to keep it.
Nearly six months of searching, this is the only one we've gotten this close on and now start all over again.

I understand your frustration and wouldn't blame you for giving up. However-
I will say that there are good reasons that these vehicles are in high demand and extremely difficult to find. If you stick it out and keep looking you will likely be as happy as we are with ours.
We found ours within a couple of weeks of starting the search, and I was looking as far out as 500 miles. There were literally zero that met our requirements (in fact only about a dozen total 4th Gens). Then the one we bought came up for sale and we bought it two days later.
As stated previously, the good ones sell fast.

if you'd consider it, try checking the ones in Texas - we have TONS of white vehicles and lots of people getting rid of SUV's....

Yep, I've been looking as far away as Houston area on CL, Autotrader, Cars.com, Carsdirect, and Vehix.com. If there's another TX-specific search I'd appreciate hearing about it.

I've calmed down after my frustration rant of Friday. 
We re-evaluated several other vehicles firsthand yesterday and I still don't see anything else I like as much as the T4R. As much as I've always been a Jeep fan, I really didn't like their latest version of the Grand Cherokee.
So Friday's post notwithstanding, it's time for me to restock on patience and keep looking.
