Video Cameras UNDER the Vehicle

I guess non of you really caught my intent. A camera in the grill or numper is not what I contemplated - and wouldn't help anyway.
I want a view from the actual bottom of the truck - where I could see the height of the approaching rock in an actual horizontal perspective compared to the lowest parts of the truck.
Mud wouldn't be a problem around here.
Dust blows off.
I guess a cowbell hanging from the area just under the ac condenser might work as well................:frusty:

it's totally doable with the type of setups that others are talking about using for the front. The only problem I see is mounting the camera under the vehicle parallel to the bottom to see true clearance. At that point the camera will become the clearance issue and you'll take that out even before you hit any other part of the vehicle.

I've got one camera in my grill and one on the passenger mirror. They are tied into my head unit...
I initially thought this would be the best things since sliced bread for rock crawling.. and it is slightly useful, but the problem is that it's really hard to get depth perception via a camera and a display. Maybe some better quality image processing could do the trick, but overall I find it to help on occasion, but nothing beats getting out and looking..... Part of the problem may be the wide angle lens (but that is what you need). I've thought about trying to buy/build some type of video stitching solution that could combine multiple feeds and get rid of the wide angle lens and do multiple cameras...
Works perfect for parking... since you are not trying to differentiate the height of rocks... It's amazing how they all look exactly the same on the screen. The view of the passenger tire from the mirror tire is pretty useful though. Allows me to to see where that tire is in relation to the terrain. Just hard to tell exactly how tall.. the terrain is.

I've decided I'll stick with getting out of the truck
I checked a bunch of camera/monitor systems on Amazon - Several would do the job inexpensively - but when all is said and done I'll stick with looking on my feet:
If a rock is too high I can pull it out of the way -
If the hole is too deep I can dump rock in it -
If I'm going to drag the rear bumper I can install the hitch receiver upside down -
If the trail is too narrow I can back out -

Awesome! I got a very similar camera (logo) for mine (2005), but b/c the Toyota logo is smaller, I'll have to do some trimming. The way I'm going to wire it all up is have the video feed into my Gentex (has a hidden monitor behind the mirror) mirror I got last year. Anyway, I haven't had luck with cameras from China, how is your holding up?

Funny you should ask. I ordered a rear facing/front facing camera first and it has held up fine. I then ordered three of these logo cameras. The first two worked during dry fitting, but failed after I hard wired them. To be fair, I mixed the connecting cables from other cameras so that could have been the problem. I am on the third one right now and it has worked every time. They refunded my money for the first one but they wanted me to ship back the second one. The shipping is almost 1.5x the price of the camera so it's sitting in my trash can now.
I actually like the rear/front facing camera best as it has the grid lines. I thought they might be useful when placing the tires on the boulders. The nice part of the camera is that you can switch the orientation of the image and remove the grid lines, by snipping the green and/or white wires. If I wanted to mount the camera under the frame like the O.P. wanted, that is the one I would use.
Nice write-up of your install. I didn't know there was a camera that fit in the center part of the logo. Good luck with completing your mod.
