( Video ) Temperature issue, I am stumped! Please help

Okay so. 97 3rz-fe (4cyl). Cruising at highway speeds temp starts to rise to about 3/4. Get off at an exit still going 30-40 mph with no load on the engine (idle) engine temp rises some more. Pull over to a stop and temp stabilized around 3/4. Rev the engine and temp falls pretty quickly to half. (Video below for illustration). If I had any hair :fro: it would be gone, but I don't. Had the CEL checked and it is still my O2 Sensor. I am stumped. Below is what I have replaced in the past week as far as the cooling system goes.

I have replaced with brand new OEM equipment.
 • Thermostat (tested in boiling water when I replaced water pump)
 • Water Pump
 • Radiator Cap

Is the rad original? How did it look inside the engine when you had the water pump off? Any build up of gunk?

It could be air in the cooling system. You may want to try and expunge as much as possible.

Also the temp gauge sender for the dash could be on the fritz per se.

As per Kball's suggestion, check to make sure there is no blockage inside the radiator as well as take the hose and with semi low pressure clean the fins on the condenser and radiator.

Not sure if the first owner replaced the rad at all. I purchased at 215k and am now at 230k. The engine itself looked fairly clean. Top radiator hose was grimy orangish tinge and overflow was similar. Figure it was because of the crap green coolant. Hoping it would come out in the flush I am in the middle of.

Also I don't really use my ac system except when NY wife and son are in the truck once or twice a week but they weren't with me today. Yes, I know I live in FL and don't use my a/c..I guess I am use to then heat! :)

The thing about the rad is that it seemed to drain and fill well. I did find this in my searches tonight and it sounds similar to my issue. [Link] http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133673[/link]

Anyone use hear of using a Denso rad.? I could get one shipped for $155...

Good find! Purchased from Amazon using my Prime membership and added next day for a grand total of $122.91! Just remembered I should have purchased new hoses. Anyone have part #s for that?

Here's Toyota #'s
radiator hose upper: 16571-62070
radiator hose lower: 16572-62070

I would just go to AZ or oreily's and pick them up there. You said you already replaced the cap right?

kball thanks for looking those up, they seem to be for the 5vz. For the 3rz-fe it looks like the OEM part numbers are 16572-75090 and 16572-75180.

I do think that I am going to go with the Dayco upper and lowers for my pockets sake. I am usually a stickler for OEM but this is one part I think I can get away with using aftermarket. Plus my pocket book thanks me, after just having a pipe the slab start leaking in the house last night.. It seems to never end!

Thanks again for the suggestions guys, I will keep ya updated if this fixes it. Next item would be the temp sensor but it seems less likely with the findings I have had.
