Just thought I'd say my condolences for everyone involved in the VT shooting earlier this morning...if you hadn't heard about it, 32 people dead as of right now and almost 70 shot. It was described as the worst shooting in US history. It hit especially hard because I'm from Virginia, albeit Northern VA, but I still know some people who attend there and can't believe something bigger than Colombine has occurred just 2 hours away.

i'm from southwestern virginia and the majority of my hometown friends go to VT as do my cousins. While none of them were hurt or invovled, my cousin did have class that morning at 10am in Norris Hall where the shooting occurred. Luckily, he's a bum and slept late and didn't go to class...However, some of my friends that go to school there did know a few of the people wounded/murdered (3/1) so it is a sad time for them. I wonder what drives people to do things such as this? Looks like many asian-americans might now get a bad rep due to this...sadly

I think my departments CISM (aka-Peer Support) team may be called for this. I guess a lot of the first responders are having a hard time with it, even though they acted courageously and swiftly.

another reason this hits home especially for me is because this is the exact same type of killing that happened at my dad's restaurant 5 years ago on easter day. colonel brook's in Washington DC; some thieves who used to work at the restaurant came in to steal only $1500 from the registers since it was just opening, one of the workers recognized who the robbers were- then the robbers took them into the freezer and shot them point blank, execution style. what motivates someone to do something so SICK and terrible astounds me. it pisses me off so much, maybe more than some. i'm glad Cho Seung-Hui took took his own life, just wish he had taken his own first and only his.

I wish he hadnt so that he could spend the rest of his life locked in a box in one of those max security prisons where they have no contact with any other people and are in there cells 23 hours of the day. I think that must be worse than death, you go crazy.

Although you are right i wish he had taken only his life first, and left everyone alone.

I can recall some years ago I was on my way to Simons Rock Collage in Great Barrington MA to do a sales call and over the radio on the way there the local dj was talking about a shooting that just took place. this guy Wane Low opend fire and killed a few people at the school it was quite a shock.

It's a good thing I was not there a 1/2 hr sooner I would have walked right into it.

or.... if he hadn't then we might be able to get some answer to why he would murder 32 people out of cold blood?

and theres nothing VT could have done much differently than what they tried to do. Colleges are open campuses onto which anyone can walk almost any time of the day. It's jsut sad trust has been broken now

I couldn't believe it when I head the story either. This is probably one of the worst days in America. My thoughts and prayers are with everybody in VT. I am a college student myself, so this really hit home. For somebody to start shooting and killing random people is beyond belief. The mental state of this kid can't be described by words. I was reading an article online that had a link to the warrant the police issued and two samples of plays he wrote for a creative writing class. The plays are extremely graphic and disturbing. Please sign the petition linked below, the Westboro Baptist Church is trying to protest the funerals of the students who lost their lives on 4/16/07.

As some of you may know, these are the same people who protest funerals of fallen soldiers in Iraq.

Many students from Facebook are trying to get a large enough amount of people to find a way to either stop them from protesting or atleast anti-protest and try and shield the families from these insane people.

First off this whole incident is horrible and and no one deserves what happend. What I don't understand is how the guy shot people in the dorms, had the time to leave campus and mail videos of himself, and then return to campus and shoot more people!!?? Are there just not any police in that city and why didn't they lock down the campus and form a perimeter after even the first hint of a firearm on campus?? I smell a HUGE lawsuit coming against the school, city and county and it would be completely justified...

Sad things just seem to happen and it seems to happen in places you would never expect it nowadays. With two pistols and limited amount of ammo.. he had to have been planning this for sometime. Its crazy what people will do just to prove something these days. He called it his revolution, yet just imagine what he just put his own family through. People should think correctly before they act..

I have very close relatives that work at VT (aunt & uncle). After talking to my uncle I don't think there is much else VT could've done. They honestly thought it was an isolated shooting. They say it's a little errie on campus right now. However, I believe they will all get through this as Hokkies are a tough group of people. Virginia has declared Friday (4-20-07) a statewide day of mourning. Everybody will be a Hookie tomorrow. And that's coming from an UVA fan.
