Hello,
I'm new to this whole forum thing, but I was hoping that I might be able to get some insight as to a problem I'm having with my 4runner from people more "mechanically incline" than myself...
I have a 1994 Toyota 4runner. I bought it used in 2004. Three months after I bought it, it blew the head gasket. I called Toyota to see if my 4runner fell under the recall, gave them my vin # and they said, "no go". So I paid to have it fixed on my own. I drove it without any major problems for about a year. Another recall came out regarding the steering column..? So it took it in and had it fixed. It's been leaking steering fluid like a sieve ever since. But that's not my main problem. About a year ago my clutch started slipping and instead of getting it fixed I parked it and used a back up car till I could come up with the money to pay to have the clutch replaced. So it sat... for about 9 months. I would run the engine for about 30 minutes every month to check and make sure things were keeping up. It did have a mouse nest in the engine compartment the last time I went to run it...
The meat: This last month I finally came up with the funds and when I went to start it it ran for only about 3 minutes and then died. It wouldn't turn over on it's own so I jumped it. It turned over and ran for another 3 minutes... and died again. I tried jumping it again but this time NOTHING. No power. No head light, no radio, no dash lights, nadda... :cry2: I had a friend come over and check it out and he made sure that the battery had a charge. Changed out a few blown fuses (irrelevant that I knew of, a windshield wiper fuse and something else small), cleaned the battery terminals and just poked around under hood in general. Waa-laa. It turned over and ran. I let it run for about 10 minutes then killed it. 3 days went by and I went to run it again and :rant: Ran for 3 minutes, died. But this time the lights still worked. The again I tried to turn it over and nothing. Then... nothing again. Now there is nothing working again. There is a charge in the battery, but for some reason it's not "getting to anything"...? I checked the fuses that we switched out last time and they all still look good...
I was thinking that maybe a mouse chewed through some wires and is causing a short? I really don't know squat about mechanics and would appreciate ANY help that anyone has to offer.
