Voltmeter tap location

I'm planning on installing a digital voltmeter from ebay. Anyone have a good wire or fuse to tap to get an accurate reading?

Maybe I'm missing something... wouldn't you just install it directly to the battery?

Should be able to attach it to any 12V switched power source. I think the 12V plug is switched with the ignition. Worrying about the fuse probably isn't a big deal. That thing probably draws very little current, but it'll be fused anyway if you hook it up to the 12V plug in the event of a short.

[MENTION=97632]Diesel_Dog[/MENTION], I did this a few years ago. I originally installed a temp gauge, but shortly switched to a volt meter that came from the same company and had the exact same housing. Heres the install thread I created.

Heres what it looks like now. It is all wired right into my original clock power. As far as I know you can wire it into any power source (cig lighter, stereo, clock, ect) and you will get a proper reading. I love it and my stereo has a clock anyway.

Nice setup [MENTION=64040]dgoll75[/MENTION] ! I thought about doing that as the ebay voltmeter appears to be a perfect fit, but I fiddled with the clock for a good 4 hours to bring it back from the dead. I found a switched ignition fuse in the panel and tapped into it. I added in a fuse as well. The northern winters seem to be hard on batteries, so its good to know what's going on.

I have a dual battery set-up and so I ran 2 voltmeters, one to each battery. Handy to have when you're sitting around a campfire with the tunes cranked!
