VSC/VSC OFF Warning Lights Problem

All:

I have a problem in that the VSC Warning lights on my 04 4Runner
are both lit ..........

I remember seeing this problem posted before but can't seem to find an answer onhow to reset them .......

Did a code check and have no problem shown on the reader.

I remember that some one said that it was the Gas Cap not being
tight ......... and that it would reset it self in a week .......

Did that .......... no change even after a month of waiting ..

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Pull the negative battery cable for about 10 minutes and then reattach it. This will reset the codes and you'll have to normalize the windows/moonroof/rear window as well as reprogram your radio.

If the issue that caused your lights to trip is still faulty, then your trouble lights will come back on.

I've seen a faulty O2 sensor will cause those lights to come on. It did for me after I had my Sulfur TSB completed.

If one places a jumper between pin 4 and pin 13, on the OBD connector, then the ABS light will start flashing a series of codes DTCs. You have to turn the ignition to On and not run.

Scanner indicates no trouble codes!


What now? A trip to the dealer?

You could read the attached linky.
I would go to page seven, on the pdf, and perform a Zero-point the calibration. If that does not work, then take her in.

I wouldn't think so. when the center diff is engaged, the VSC OFF light is illuminated, but nothin happens with the VSC light. The VSC light only comes on when VSC is engaged. I don't think VSC can be engaged and turned off at the same time.

Take it in and get it diagnosed. Like I said in my past post, those lights came on when I had a faulty O2 sensor. Other people have had the same symptoms and the O2 sensor was bad as well.

BTW, you must really like Hella 500s?

My VSC light stayed on until I had one of the oxygen sensor's replaced. That was about a year and 1/2 ago and it hasn't happened again. From what I read at the time it seems to be a common problem. Don't ask me what the VSC has to do with an O2 sensor but that's the warning light that comes on.

Yes I have Hella 500 on all my vehicles as I live on a ranch in Colorado and Deer and Elk are my biggest driving hazards!

I'm seven miles from the nearest paved road!

BTW - I still want you to make a shift knob for my runner. When I got rid of my Miata, the knob was the only thing I kept. :biggrin2:

KNOBmeister, did you ever try the zero point calibration procedure that greasefingers suggested? I had a similar problem recently and was able to fix it with the instructions provided in the file that was linked there.

I think I now know one source of this problem, and will gather my notes together to detail what's going on. That may take a day or two, though.
