VSS Sim. all nav functions while in motion
When I bought this truck I really didn't want the navigation system. I use it much more than I ever imagined that I would. However, the lockout of destination input while in motion as well as the USB browse folders lockout sent me on search of the internet for a solution.
As with some of my best work, I stole it! All creative engineering credit belongs to the originator.
This device will replace the vehicle VSS signal (4 pulses per wheel revolution) with a simulated pulse of about 700+/400-ms which is interpreted by the NAV as ~4-7 mph. Lockout occurs at about 10 mph.
It should only be used for short periods of time since the NAV relies on the VSS as well as satellite info for tracking. When activated, the position will drift and lag. Once the real signal is restored, normal tracking returns in a few seconds.

These wires are 2010 4Runner specific, it will also work with other Toyota Nav systems but the wire locations and colors may vary.
These are the pieces and parts required. Plus some sort of a non-conductive box to put it in. I used a bar soap box just to be classy.
This is the best layout that I could design. There is a lot of crossing over the chip that maybe could be improved upon. Hey, it works.
The Relay is really optional. You could change it up and use a DPDT switch to save some space and a few bucks. I just didn't want the + voltage running back and forth all the time. In theory, the relay will give a fail safe where the 'real' input from the vehicle VSS is sent if something craps out.
I've set this up with Cat5 ethernet connections at the board and switch which should make it easier to put the switch where you want and be able to disconnect it easily when a panel needs to come off.
I'm using an LED at the switch which flashes when the Sim is on as a visual reminder.
