W 52 transmission rear seal

This is off topic but this is the only part of the forum I view. First owner of a 1st gen to hopefully get on the road this summer. My question is on my 83 truck I lucked up on with a L diesel. Been sorting it out and my rear seal is pouring. Build date 6/82 W52 transmission 5 speed. I also have a wrecked 88 4 runner. Any transmission parts interchangeable? Can I remove the tailpiece and put a new seal in without pulling the transmission? I paid a local (slow) mechanic to do the clutch and should have thought of seal replacement then. Any thread links or information greatly appreciated! THANKS

My bad Kid, L 52 in the truck. W56 in the runner. Ordered front and rear seals from RA today for 1,55 each. Reilly wanted 13 and change for one. 5.02 shipped for both. The L52 and W 52 take the same seal so escaped the gauntlet on that one. W 56 seems physically larger. Guess I will pull the L 52 and inspect. Maybe bearings at each end? Got any idea what an extension seal is? Cailed beck Arney today, no phone tech support....dang Indians must have went on strike. :rip:

Hi David this seal installs on the front of the housing.

Seems to be the gasket between the trans and engine.
