Yeah its suck especially for those of us that open like 5 tabs and reply to all them and have to wait like 2 minutes post.

Oh yeah spam can be a problem I hate spam on forums, slows everything down

Trust me I hate it just as much as all of you, but I totally understand why they have it. It's just there to help the mods out a little and for that reason I can put up with it. They work pretty hard to keep this site up and running.

Well, look guys, this limit was put in place to prevent the spammers from having a field day on this forum. You see...the spammers are electronic (not human controlled)...therefore, they will make as many posts as they can on the first sweep of the forum. So, within 1 minute, they can have over 10 posts of porn/advertisements/etc.. If i am not readily at hand, then the moderators have to SINGLE-HANDEDLY go through EACH post and delete them. But wait, there is more! Well, another spammer signs on and spams more posts! And another...and another. So, now, a moderator has to go through over 50 posts to delete them! This could take 30 min to over an hour to do! (I hope that you guys realize that being a moderator on this forum is not easy..and appreciate the mods more for doing this...for free!)
What does the 2 min limit do? Well, it makes the spammers wait. Since they are electronic, they cannot wait. So, they get their ONE post in...and that's it. This makes it easy for the moderators to delete and control the spam. And since the spam is much less, YOU GUYS benefit! The forum runs smoother (for the most part). You don't have to look at porn every other post (esp. if you hit "View New Posts").
As you all may know, i try to stick around this forum during registration period so that i can catch these spammers BEFORE they post. However, since i do have a day job that can be time consuming (scanning the new members in between seeing my patients!), i may not be there for a short period of time. Therefore, a spammer can get through before i can either delete them or ban them (proactively). After me, then it is up to the moderator(s) to control the spam on the forum. And this is where the 2 min limit comes in handy to make their (and YOUR) lives easier.
Thus far, the 2 min limit has worked quite well. Once we have the software upgrade (don't ask me when because i don't know!), then i will be more than happy to take this limit out. Until then, this limit stays and it is not up for you guys to decide.
Why is this topic not up for discussion? The signature issue did not affect the running of this forum...it was more of an annoyance to some (or many) members of this forum. Because of such, I created the poll to ask what the members of this forum thought. THIS time limit is critical to the forum's proper functioning and makes the moderating duties easier for us. Therefore, it is not up for discussion. Please remember, less spams = benefits ALL OF US.

Unfortunately, any change in the forum will make some happy, some not. I try to be as fair as possible when it comes to pleasing the members...this was why i created the poll recently on the signature topic. Since this forum is public and is for 4runner members, if there is a topic that comes up that some agree and some not, then i let the forum vote on it as a whole. This way, it takes the decision making process out of our (admins and mods) hands and put it in the democratic process hands. I will do what the majority of members want...i can't make changes for the few that disagree.
Fo_SheeZy, i hope that you understand this and will continue to post.

can you guys at least make it less of a gap? say 45 seconds or 60 seconds...at least something bearable...if spammers still get through with 60 seconds then just go back to 120

why don't you just set it up so new members have to be approved before they can post? if your spammers are like the bots i used to have to deal w/, then you can usually spot them by location, homepage etc, and just deny the membership.

Why don't you guys just upgrade the VB software ? I and a few others have mentioned it here . Then just toss in a few anti-bot scripts to keep the crap out. There aren't ( that I'm aware of ) any other forums that have to go 2 minutes between posts for this reason . There never seems to be an answer about the upgrade. If you already have a VB license the upgrade does NOT cost anything . In one of my previous posts I offered to do it for you guys for free , NO CHARGE !
This is about the only forum on the internet that still runs an ancient version of V Bulletin . There are a ton of security issues with this old software , if your concerned at all about that .
