Want Mo HP for My V6

Hi guys! I just got back from my final deployment and paid off my 4Runner! Woooo! What a great feeling and relief to get my baby paid off before I retire. :guitar3:

While I was overseas, the hubs put a nice 3" body/leveling lift on it for my B-day, (cause he knows what his woman likes) and it looks sweet. One thing I'd like to look into is giving it a little mo power. It is a 2008, SR5 V6, 4WD. Right now, since all I do is drive to/from work, I'm ok with the current HP since I'm just commuting with it. However, when we move to the mountains in a year, I'm going to be hauling a bit of stuff around over the hills and through the woods... LOL Things like boats, utility trailers, etc. and I'd like a little more power. ...and I'll admit, sure.... I want to haul ass. :naughty:

So.. the options I'm finding are turbo and supercharger... turbo sounds like the more economical option. However, I'm not finding any kits for 4Runner. I see a few for Tacomas... guessing that is compatible with a few mods. I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem for hubs.. (he is filled with the 'All-Spark' and can build/fix anything mechanical. LOL)

You guys have any advice where I should start researching? I didn't see anything on the forum for 08s.. (sorry if I missed it). If you have advice, or can point me in the right direction or link some reading material to educate myself, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I think going with a turbo would be unique. It'd take more custom work though.

Well first off welcome back!

Glad to see someone else intrested in making power. Myself or my buddy Skyline. Both have some predtty nice hooked p t4r's. I'm sure he will catch your thread n put in his 2 cents...lol...for now i will leave u with a website to check out urdusa.com. There is a company called APR they r in the works for a turbo kit. There r many options but u want to go step by step doing it the right way. I got to go but ensure we will guide u in the right direction. Welcome back to the homeland. I salute you and thansk for your service. Ditto to above post. URD has some great stuff and I got great advice from both whitebeauty and skyline in upping my power for my 08 V6 4Runner. I have a list(short compared to others) of mods you can check out that I recently did. Maybe start with some Iridium spark plugs, CAI cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and an exhaust then do the big stuff like a Supercharger, ECU (check out URD) etc... Buy the best oil filter you can get and use some great synthetic oil every 3 to 5k or when you know you've been driving your baby hard.

The only bolt on kit for the 4th gen 4runner is the URD kit. 360 RWHP while running the full factory exhaust is just incredible. You will need a X1 to run it though but Gadget is working on other means of tuning. From the sounds of things though you'll want low end torque where the TRD unit shines. However I have been told with my many.....conversations with TRD, that if you run the TRD unit on a 4runner they WILL NOT warranty it, service it, etc, blah blah blah lawyer crap (hence my great dislike for TRD at the moment). It'll fit, you'll need the FJ fit kit and modify the intercooler for it to work. Plus you'll need to find some EMS to run it for your 425 injectors, fuel maps, load tables, etc, again because there is no flash for the 4runner, but it looks like you could run the TRD 425 flash for the FJ, but no one has tried it. Turbo sounds like a good alternative but'll you need to size it right and build a intercooler setup (URD could help ya there) fueling, tuning (simple, just get a stand alone or a mapecu3) and exhaust. One thing you need to think of when running any kind of F/I is the cooling system. A EOC should be in your future wither you N/A or F/I but with F/I more stress is involved.
