Want to change stock rims, keep stock tires

Hi, been lurking for a year or so and finally got the nads up to register and post.

Got an '04 Sport V6 with Xreas and the stock 17s with the Dunlops. Like the tires just fine, they're quiet and grip fine on the road. Don't take it off road.

Here's my question: I want to change the rims but keep the rubber until it wears out. Don't need to bling it up with dubs. 17s are just fine and I found one set I like but I don't know if they have a size that fits.

Will the stock 265s stretch out to fit a 17x9? Or do I need to keep it to 17x8? And is there anything in regard to the low-tire pressure warning light I need to be concerned with?

yes, the tire pressure monitor system includes 4 sensors...one on each wheel. If I remember right...the valve stem and pressure sensor in one assembly...

so, if you can you'll need to remove those sensors/valve stem from you stock rims over to your new ones. If you don't the monitor inside you truck will 'sense' that the sensors are missing and set off a warning light.

I'm not sure, but you may also have to take your 4runner into the dealer to 'resync' the sensors to the tire pressure monitor after removing them from the original wheel. Maybe someone here with more experience can answer that...

I think it can be done as I've seen new 4runner here on the lot with aftermarket wheels.

as far as having an inch wider rim...no problem from the tire perspective, but there might be a clearance issue with the truck itself...rim width, offset, etc. Your local wheel dealer should be able to help you with that info...

From the tirerack website...approved rim widths for your tire are 7.5 to 9.5 in.
