May I ask what size tires you plan to run? I know a few that are able to fit 35's with a combination of a 3" lift and a 1.5" body lift and trimming. Anything more than 3" of lift and you will be maxing out your CVs.

If you were looking for 6" of lift, then you might look into the compatibility of the FJ's 6" lift kits from Fabtech or Rough Country.

i want to run 33's if not 35's but at least 33.if i do need anything else besides the lift kit let me know now of what i need and how to do it. thanks.

If your main goal is to run 33's, then a 3" lift will be fine with some trimming and a body mount chop. You can add a body lift for additional clearance but that's all you need.

Now if you want to run 35's, A10MileHusker was able to fit them with stock front and rear bumpers, coilovers, body lift and aggressive trimming.

well thanks this helped alot. i did some research and tell me if this is right. im thinking of getting this if it works. its to do the FJC/5100 swap, using the Bilstein 5100's. now, would this be enough lift to fit 33in. tires and 4x4 in it still? or would i have to go with some thing bigger and get other things like longer arms and stuff?

If you maxed out the 5100s with the FJ springs it would probably clear 285s in the front but you would need a spacer or new coils in the rear. You will also need to chop the body mounts in the front to keep the tire from rubbing it.

I think you need spidertrax or wheels with more backspacing to clear the UCAs with 285 or wider.

Also, I'm not sure how good it is to pair the 5100s at the highest setting with FJ springs. It's probably okay since the 5100s are designed for FJC but it would probably be better to get OME or adjustable coilovers like Overland Warehouse, Icon, SAW, King, Fox, etc.

i need a suspention system, or lift kit that gets me to fit 33" tires, and take a beating off road, but still be confortable on the road. if you have anything you can think of please let me know.

i have a third row seat, and will be using it for other things like hauling so i need it to be able to take the wieght of a full or loaded truck.

This is a little late but since no one else responded I will

would this be better in place of doing the 5100's??? Full 2.5" suspension kit
From what I've read that is the cadillac of suspension kits for our runners. The guys who make them are very active on toyota120.com and valve them specifically for the 4runner while most shocks we use are valved/tuned for FJ Cruisers. If you're interested in spending that much I'd drop them an email, they're helpful and will tell you exactly what you need. They're also a sponsor here on t4r.

what kind of wheels shouls i get and with what backspacing?
It's going to depend on how wide the wheels are. Most people seem to run stock rims with spidertrax 1.25" spacers which is around 3.75" of backspace. Those who upgrade wheels usually get 0 to slightly negative offset.
Backspace/Offset to replace 1.25" spacers
How Much backspacing

Hope that helps!

alright thanks, well i plan on going with a rim size of 17" by either 8" or 9" more then likely im going to stick with the 9". what do you think is better? and with these size's of a wheels what kind of offset am i looking at and back spacing? would i need any things else to make this work? with the rubber im looking at some where between 28" and 35".

I think most people with 8 or 9" wheels get ~4.5" of backspace but I'm not certain it might be better to search the forum more.

It's possible to clear 35s but requires a lot of trimming and I think still causes scrubbing. Most run 285/70R17 which is 33x11.50 and usually fits ~3" front & 2" back, some also use a 1-1.5" body lift, you may have to trim without the body lift.

You will definitely have to remove at least the front and possibly rear mud flaps.

I'm pretty confident you won't need to do the body mount chop for 33" tires. I run 33/12.5/17 MTZ. No body mount chop, but lots of plastic trimming because I went 12.5" wide:bash:. I also welded some metal to the steering stops, and had to replace my UCA to some Light Racing UCA.

If you stick with the size that most upgrade to, 285/70/17 you do not need to upgrade the UCA unless you want, won't need to reduce the steering, and should have minimal trimming if any.

The most popular lifts are either a spacer lift, or ARB-OME shocks and coils. Spacers are useful for providing the space for 33" tires to give your truck an aggresive look. I offroad with several guys with spacer lifts on FJC's. It works well because the bigger tires is what gives you more clearance. The lift gives you space for the tires. I say OME because many many people use them, give the required lift, improve load capability are tried and tested around the world, and are a decent price. But overlandwarehouse stuff is suppossed to be top notch and they know 4runners and offroading.

Doing shocks and coils can augment your weigh carry ability and maintains your shocks ability to travel. This is the better option, but like I sais the spacers work to. With a shock/coil combination now not only can you fit bigger tires, which give you more clearance, but the shocks are longer, so they can drop down into a deeper hole and help to maintain traction.

I forget if you really need wheel spacers for 285/70/17. It's been awhile, and run different offset rims to run the 12.5" wide tires, of which again I forget the offsest.

But for for 35" tires you will need to do the body mount chop, and almost for sure you will need to do a 1.5" body lift, and plastic trimming.

Other things you might look into, regardless 33 or 35 tires. is the toytec 1/4" top plate spacer, diff drop kit, and sway bar relocate kit.

Also please consider some skid plates and rock sliders. Nice that you have a lift, and big tires, but rocks and tree stumps still won't be afraid to rip into the mechanics and underside of your truck.

And your sport edition will need to keep 17" or great rim size to be able to clear its larger brakes if you decide to change rims, or was thinking of getting a 16" rim size tire.

thanks i was planning on staying with a 17" i might jst do a break upgrade. and im looking into OW and ICON, not sure which kit yet but they both have a decent 2.5 kit. i need something for both hardcore 4wheeling and high speeds.

I think their reference for 2.5 is not a reference for lift height. But a reference for shock diameter. Anyways, look into that. In anycase it should provide lift for 33"s

If they are adjustable, some people have had issue with height adjustable shocks after a season or two in snow, cold, salt roads; they get jammed. Only an issue if you want to be adjust height periodically. But looks like you're in CA so probably not too much of the white stuff there.

ICON offers special coating for harsh environments if it's a concern. I didn't get the special coating option and my truck spent the last three winters in the mountains driving through snow and salted roads with no corrosion to the shock body. I adjusted them a couple of months ago to compensate for added weight with no seizures or jams.

yeah i kind of figured that already but thanks anyways, and thanks for the info on that. i probable wont be doing anything too carzy until i get all the heavy stuff on. so im not too worried about corrosion or it being stuck. and once i have it set (with every thing else on) i dont plan on touching it again. adjusting it wise.

is the special coating alreading on the kit when you get it, or is it something you have to add? like a spray or grease??
