Want to trade in my 4th Gen for a 3rd Gen...

Thank you all for the input. I expanded my search a bit and found a few '02s that look really nice too. Headed down on Wednesday to take a few for a spin and see how desperate the dealerships are to make a sale.

Tis true. Older vehicles are cheaper to insure. If it doesn't drop your company is looking to make some extra bucks off of you.

Power-wise, there is a pretty significant different between a 3.4 Automatic and a 4.0 auto, but not so much if you compare a 5-speed 3.4 against an auto 4.0. And later if you decide to add a supercharger, you'll make more power than the 4th gen with the V8.

Well, the 98 turned out to be more beat up than the photos showed, plus the dealer was pretty scummy. I ran through the other possibilities on my list and ended up with an exceptionally clean 02 SR5, 145k on the clock, one lease and one owner who never took it off-road. The previous owner took it in to the dealer for EVERYTHING- maintenance reports show it was taken in for light bulb replacements for Pete's sake. As far as the power goes with the 3.4, I did 70 up the passes no problemo. Maybe a little more sluggish than the 4.0 but we ain't exactly driving race cars

Wish I would've looked at this thread sooner I could've told you that 98 from Podoll was a piece of crap. A lot of their stuff is overpriced.

Yeah 4WD, leather, sunroof, e-locker, and Clifford aftermarket security system. Any chance it's a highlander edition?(probably not). I paid 10,900, they gave me 8 on the trade in and hauled my old one to the auction(terrible carfax and they didn't like the bumper). Did I overpay, yeah, but also got a 2 year full powertrain warranty and my monthly payments ended up being nearly identical to what I was paying already so I'm happy. Plus its got brand new snow tires and mine were down to the wear bars so that's almost a grand right there.

I'm thrilled about the way it handles. It drives more like a truck than my 04 and I just can't say enough about the looks of these 3rd Gens. I need to keep it clean as a daily driver for a few years, then it's trail rig time!

Nice buy! Although just want to clarify there was no e-locker offered in 02, so it's probably the center diff locker. I can definitely attest to the 3rd gen riding like a truck and the 4th are more car like. My mom always comments that when she drives my 00. She has a 03 and loves driving mine because it is truck like.

I've thought about trading up to a 4th gen as they are super comfortable, but we'll see, I love how my 3rd gen drives.
