That thing is beyond awesome. If I had a garage to put that in, I'd be bidding. Like the article said, the kids that dreamt of these things in the 80's now have the cash to buy a pristine one.

I purchased a 4Runner like this in 1984. It was my first new vehicle purchase. It was red with gold stripes and a white top. It was an SR5 with the altimeter and inclinomometer on the dash. I kept it only 2 years because even though it was bulletproof, it was the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever drove. SFA? It felt like a solid SUSPENSION lol and seats made out of sheet metal. I even took the top off a few times when I was at Hatteras and drove it on the beach. So, some fond memories and many not so fond memories. I will just keep the memories instead of getting one. After the experience of owning the '84 it took 25 years to get me in a 4Runner again, if that tells you anything. Oh, I was 21 when I bought the '84 4Runner and I used it to tow a small trailer to carry my ATV: A Honda 250R THREE wheeler! That I actually raced! (!) Oh yes, those were the days...

That's what I average driving my kids around to various sports practices! Ugh! (Not really, but it certainly FEELS like it)

My buddy had one very similar to this. What an excellent vehicle.

One evening we drove it through some water that was deeper than we expected. Water swelled up against the windsheild briefly in the deepest part, and I thought we were done. Sure enough, it made it...

The removable roof was so excellent as well!
