Warm engine takes longer cranking time to start?

I just replaced my spark plugs and wires, as well as the MAF and IACV about a month ago, and until today, I've had no problems. Today, when my engine was somewhat warm (sat for 3-5 hours), it took a lot longer to turn over and start up...I'd hit the starter for 5 seconds or more, turn it off then crank it again, then it would finally start. It doesn't sound "slow" so I don't think the battery is bad, but I'm not sure what else to check. I'm a little worried now that it's getting colder out, I'd like to get this fixed sooner if possible. I'd appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks,

Are all the parts OEM? Specially IACV and MAF?
How many miles in your truck?
Have you tried using a fuel injector cleaner like gumout?

I too had long cranking issue and it came out of the blue. I then replaced spark plugs and wires etc., and no luck in that route. Then used about 3 bottle of gum out in 3 full tanks of gas in a row, and I now see it starts like in 1-2 seconds.

So many things can be wrong here. pull the OBDII codes for starters. Check battery wires, test alternator, test battery voltage (both idle and when car is off)... you should have 12v'ish when off, and 14v'ish when on.

Starter contacts could be on their way out. Fuel injectors could be clogged (Which is why people are suggesting the fuel injector cleaners through the tank, like Techron and others).

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll give some fuel injector cleaner a shot first. I haven't checked the codes but I don't have any warning lights so I don't think I'll get any back. I will also check the battery voltage this weekend.

Do starter contact problems have a particular sound? I'm asking because I haven't noticed any change in the sound when I crank the starter, but it has seemed like it takes a little longer than it should to turn over for a while now.

When starter contacts are wearing out, you simply hear clicking sound when you try to turn the engine. I got 200 K miles and still on original contacts (but I do carry a set just in case). They are not too hard to replace.

Use Gumout injector cleaner (walmart sells it for $3). Buy 2 or 3 and use 1 complete bottle for a tank of gas. Run until about 1/4 left and refuel and add the 2nd bottle. Always good to use the cleaners when you drive on freeway.

Hmm...OK, so short term I'll try some injector cleaner, long term I'll push "fuel filter" further up the to-do list. I think I'll wait on the fuel pump until I've exhausted the easier options...

Haha its like deja vu in that old thread. Dude has long crank times (lol), tries all the cheap remedies before doing the one he knows in the back of his mind is right.

Also - What kind of system do you have in your t4r, dbsoundman? I feel like with a username like that, you have to have a cool sound system

Haha, I actually don't have any other reasons to suspect the fuel pump at this point, and since it's not a common theme for replacements here on the forum it's not quite the "one true solution" in my mind just yet. :)

My sound system is actually kind of lame...I have a double DIN touch screen receiver, Pioneer I think...bluetooth, USB/iPod, etc, but that's about it. Haven't had money or need to upgrade the rest and if I got a sub I'd lose cargo space so I haven't gone that far just yet!
