Warning: SCC Z-Chain Z-579

I have a 07 limited with 265/60-18s. Just wanted anyone looking for snow cables that the SCC Z-Chain Z-579 does not fit properly on these tires. I purchased them per the SCC-Chain website application guide for my tire size. They are too loose (even at the tightest setting) and will hit parts of the wheel well i.e. mud guards and running boards. I just emailed them and will post their comments/resolution.

Michelin Cross Terrains

Well, I didn't want to wait around for an email response as I need to get this thing fixed within the next week so I called SCC. The 265/60-18s are the smallest tires to fit (per application) to these chains. SCC's response was that although tire manufacturers make 265/60-18s, their overall diameters may vary. That being said, I guess the Michelin Cross Terrains have a smaller overall diameter that most other 265/60-18 tire manufacturer. SCC said that "in an emergency situation" chains tighteners can be used but they "do not recommend them". Liability.
Guess I'll just have to get my BFG A/T KO 265/65-18s by next week :

Hey, Joe here. Ar'nt you looking at about $240 a tire for BFG AT KO in a 265/65-18? thats the local price in the sacramento area of Kali-Forn-Ya (as Ahhnold calls it)

I bought a set of Bridgestone ATs instead of the BFGs I love just on the cost, paid $150 a tire Vs $240

I bought a set of Bridgestone ATs instead of the BFGs I love just on the cost, paid $150 a tire Vs $240

lol, yeah, the BFG's within the next week was kind of joke... although I do want to get these tires. My cross terrains didn't handle as well as I thought they would on snow. BTW, the local Pepboys has a promo "Buy 3 get one Free". I didn't really check out the price cuz they were so busy. Costco's got them too but I don't know their prices either. I'm gonna just use chain tighteners until my stockers need replacing or until I get a lift.

Yes I know a lot of folks love the tall look and all that stuff. I just wanted heated seats, leather and a real 4X4 so I bought the $40K option.

Anyone in my area want a set of 18'' rims?

Im looking for 17s next time I buy tires these 18's are in the trash can

I agree. The 18" look nice and kinda blingy but absolutely no good for tire selection. HOWEVER, the TRD 18"s by BSS are frickin nice. If I could just ditch my Xreas, get a 4" coilovers and fit huge tires on the TRD's, I put down some cash for it though there really isn't much need for all of that cuz I don't "climb rocks" or "go bogging". Just do a lot a backing in to water to load/unload skis, go camping, skiing, and that sort of light off roading.

Biggest issue for me is the wife...

If I want to spend money on my ride, I have to fight for every cent. Just putting new tires on the thing causes issues.

yetch. and having 18'' rims, no one makes a reasonably priced A/T so I am stuck, I am trying to buy a set of 17's that some other owner takes off, so next time I can buy 17' Coopers or similar

I dont bog or do rocks, although the Rubicon Trail is only like 35 / 40 miles from where I live

Hey Uneek, sorry bud, I was down in Ontario in SoCal Thur/Fri- Home right now and Im going to run over to Eric's shop at Arco in a hour, then off to Richmond/Boston/NY starting tomorrow - back later in the week.

We can often see the So Lake weather from our place, but but the lake is 86 miles from my home, about an hour 15 minutes drive on a good day

Hey Joe, I hope you have a great trip, stay safe and dry.

Have fun at the meet, I cancelled my trip for this weekend cause of the predicted heavy snowfall tomorrow. All my past trips to Tahoe the drives have been peachie, I don't want to end up being a sitting duck tomorrow. I have other things that need to be taken care of as well. I'll definately meet up with you all when it warms up and the snow is gone.
