Way to get around no cat?

So I have been having trouble with my 96 runner recently, started with a new exhaust I installed (magnaflow 14inch muff) causing my o2 to not warm up properly, then my tranny blew second gear. Well I had a local shop redo my exhaust but add new pipe to eliminate the exhaust leak, but I just took my runner to my local toyota guy to have the tranny replaced and he is claiming the shop took my cat. So the question I'm asking is, is there any way to get around the engine code and shitty milage of not having a cat? I don't have the money to replace the cat, so I'm curious if there is a mod I can do to eliminate the need for the cat. Thank you for all you're help.

mods import tuner shops that flash and program computers will be able to freeze the value for the af sensor. like i mean it will make it so that its constantly reading one value. but that could mess with how it runs if you drive it across different elevations much.

I'm in Alaska and do lots of trips cross state due to my cabins being at different locations, so elivation dosent change a lot, but it is constantly changing. So I may need to suck it up till I can order a new cat :/ just irritating that I just payed someone to fix my exhaust and now I'll have to pay someone else to install a cat that I didn't want taken out. Bu thanks for the info.

Do you have a cali emissions 4runner? If so, you can get aftermarket cats for only $300 from Rock auto. For 49-state, it'd be even cheaper. If by can't afford it you mean can't afford OEM, then look into aftermarket.

I think there are enough benefits to having the CAT that it won't really be worth spending much money to make it work right without the CATs rather than just replacing them. An O2 sim will run you $120 on it's own and won't fix your backpressure problem.

By can't afford I mean I'm in Alaska and no aftermarket company ships up here so I have to go with ome, and all the junk yards are required to cut out the cats and recycle them so no luck there either. So untill I can afford a new ome cat I will be purchasing the urd sensor simulator.
