? WC Motorsports & Off road ?

Has anyone from the Northeast heard of or has had work done by this shop (WC Motorsport & Off road)? They are located in Foxboro, MA across from the Patriot's stadium on Route 1. I stopped in briefly to talk about a lift for my '11 4Runner and they kept pushing Rancho suspension products. They must have some deal with Rancho, I'm guessing. I mentioned the Toytec lift and they heard nothing of the sort. I explained how the Toytec kit uses the Bilstein 5100 and they went on to say that Bilstein rides too hard.

What I really would like to know is if anybody had any experience with them. I want to know if this is a reputable shop in this area.

Also, if anyone could recommend a reputable 4x4 shop in the MA/RI/CT area to have a lift safely and correctly installed, I would greatly appreciate it.

I just have psychological issues with thinking that some shop is going to screw something up somewhere while installing the lift.

Hey,

I've never heard of them, but then again I don't believe there are too many off road shops up here. I do know of a great independent guy that just opened up a shop in Holliston if your interested. His name is Brian and I believe his shop is BDR Automotive (I'll double check). He used to work at a Specialty Rover Shop called Cityside Garage and has worked on a friends Rover(s) and previous Hummer.

Last I knew, Brian was driving a lifted 2000 4runner so I would bet he knows how to set-up our 4runners. I might be interested in doing something to so maybe he could treat us extra right.

Just remember businesses, especially ones that handle retail product, will try to sell you items they can make the most margin with. Apparently Rancho is this shop's high profit item. When it comes to "firm" or "best" ride perception is different for everyone. If you want to learn about different suspension companies listen to the people who are not selling a specific one who have no reason to push one over the other. Just read all the threads here. These guys are not lying and they have no reason to push a specific product.

And yes, some shop COULD screw something up when installing the lift which means you need to be smart enough about such things to be able to inspect their work. If you are not, either find someone who is to inspect their work or don't have it done.
 
PracticalFJ Thank you for that input. I'll have to swing by there at some point and shoot the s**t with Brian. I'd rather have someone work on the 4runner who knows the vehicle. I like your idea too!

1engineer- I got that feeling from them. I did have a friend that had suspension work done on his jeep and they were pressing him as well to go with the Rancho. He however went with Fox. Also, they were telling me to go with toyo tires so I could only guess they do deal with Toyo like that as well. I will continue to do my research.
 
I know of the shop you're talking about and that they push Rancho but haven't dealt with them. My thinking is, if they're gonna push Rancho crap and play dumb about Bilstein you should probably look elsewhere

^^This is good advice! Do your own research, there are tons of threads here and other forums covering all types of lifts, talk to the peeps that have them and get their opinions. Once you decide what you want it would probably be best to buy the lift yourself then find a qualified shop to install it if you aren't able to do it yourself.

Let him know, that I (Derek's old housemate/friend) sent you...Brian and I used to have the same 4runner...but his looked really cool lifted.
 
They also quoted me $250 per Rancho shock/strut for the front plus whatever the rear would be(couldn't tell me). For about $1,000.00 total for the lift and install it would cost me. Does that seem to be a normal price? They really pushed the retail products hard and say they love the Rancho's. I'm not sold on Rancho one bit and do not see any of the 5th gens with them.

Another thing that I found interesting was that they told me not to listen to much of what people say on these forums. I feel I have been coming away with a great wealth of knowledge from this forum.

Speaking from experience from both sides of the counter:
It's true, you can get a wealth of information from forums.
It's also true that you can be misled by many as well.

Bottom line is all shops, including mine, are there to make a profit. If we didn't, we wouldn't be around for very long. It's just a matter of how they go about it.

For example, I welcome people that bring their own parts in. I cannot stand behind the quality of what they bring in, but I WILL stand behind the labor that goes into it. What is very misleading about internet sales is that they are not all that much cheaper than supporting your local business. I also expect that the customer will allow me to come close or even match whatever it is that you want to purchase online. There are, however, many exceptions especially this time of year.

You have to weigh the differences behind internet sales and your local store/shop. If there is a problem with a customer supplied part, the customer is responsible for making that correction. Such as, missing parts. If I've got your truck taken apart and there is a misboxed unit or defective part or one that doesn't fit properly, you'll have to contact the supplier to fix the problem. That may potentially leave your vehicle down for an inconvenient amount of time. If the local shop provides this part, they have to do all of the work to make it correct. Even provide a loaner or rental car for your inconvenience. Most of us here use our vehicles as daily drivers and can't be without it for an unknown amount of time.

In regards to a shop recommending a particular line of shocks, tires, suspension lifts-it's true. We want to recommend what is the most profitable or accessible. But at the same time, a good shop will tell you about the pros and cons for each and every product they sell. And a good shop should know about other products that they can't provide. The best shop will admitedly tell you they have no experience with a particular brand, not just bash on the quality that they have no experience with.

Bottom line is, visit the business (which it appears you already have) and talk to the salesperson/mechanic/employee. If you're not comfortable with what they say (which it sounds like you're not), don't give them the business. They should always inform you with facts, not opinions (unless they state that it IS their opinion).

Now I should have asked if they would price match but from what I gathered, it didn't seem as if they would.

On another note, to everyone, how do you all feel about the Toytec lifts and the Bilstein 5100's. Again, like WC Motorsports said "The Bilstein's ride rough". Is this a true statement?

My 3rd gen rides on these and it is not rough at all.

I just want to set the record straight. We dont push one specific brand of lift. Ranch has a nice strut set up all assemble. They also offer lifetime warranty. I do make any more with one company or the other. I have sold Bilstein and have recieved ride quality issues. We have been doing this for a long time and pride our selves on quality. I just wanted to respond to the comments. Thanks
 
Did you end up going to WC or BDR for your work. I'm in Canton and just getting into working on my 2011. I'm going to run a 2/1.5 toytec and am looking for a good shop in the area to to do business with. Or are there any other good shops in the area you know of.
 
@ E190- I go to Brian at BDR Automotive. I have him do all of my suspension work. I shot in there just the other day. He's a great guy with a stand up business. He knows his stuff. You'll be impressed by all of the Land Rovers he works on.
