Weak Horn on 2010 4R

I finally installed a pair I like, they are the fiamms linked above.
I also made a wiring harness with 16 gauge, a 1 to 2 wire split, two female and one male connector. So the stock horn plug goes on the male connector, then the wire splits into two and the two female connectors go onto the horn, the horns are then grounded by the metal brackets that mount them to the frame (theyre are two unused screws on the same bar that the stock horn is mounted to, I used one for each of the two new horns). I didnt use the relay that came with the kit as the fuse that comes stock is sufficient. Last thing I did was tape and zip tie it up, looks great, the factory horn is still mounted, just not connected. Didnt cut a single stock wire.
Horn sounds like a real one now
Sorry I didnt take any pictures, but it is very easy with basic skills.
Oh, and theyre are 13 plastic clips, which when you re install you need to be careful to not push so hard that you secure and then unsecured them in one push, I did and thought I broke half of them, turns out I was just pushing to hard when I put them back.
Anyway, this mod is easy and should be done by everyone, like the workers at the factory where they make this thing!

why did you do all this 'harnessing'?? i thought it was plug n' play, according to ckon's post on page 1...

The kit I bought didnt include any wires, all I did was make the stock plug that was meant for one horn into a setup that splits into two wires that plug into the two separate horns.
If you wanted to just use one horn it would be just plug and play, but to do two you need to be able to wire them both, the harness I made allows you to do that without doing any cutting to the stock wiring. Its not hard to make, you need about 3 feet or less of wire, something to cut it with, something to strip it with, something to crimp the connectors with and two female plugs, on male plug and a 1 to 2 splitter. You can get all the stuff at walmart or an auto store for 10-15 dollars (including the striping/crimping tool if you dont already own one). Most of the auto stores that sell horns sell wiring kits, but they have stuff you dont need.
Cut the wire into a 2 foot and a 1 foot length (this can really be like 1 foot and a 6" length) Strip both ends of the longer piece and 1 end of the shorter piece. Place the splitter in the middle of the longer wire along the unstriped end of the shorter wire into the splitter, close it up. Take the lone wire on one end and place a male connector on that end, crimp it in place. Place a female connector on the other two wire ends and crimp them, they will plug into each of the two new horns, so plug those into your newly bolted up horns. Take the stock horn wire with the plug on the end and plug the male connector on the harness into it. I would tape over the connections to keep any water out, then ziptie anything dangling. Your done.
It should take a monkey less than an hour once you have everything to go from opening the hood to done with the project.
Anyway

WEIRD! I had two wires, two females, - just plug 'n play. No need to make a pigtail or extend anything. I wonder what the difference is?

Hmmm, I bought another brand horn and returned it, that one came with some wires and they could have been chain linked to both work, it had two females and two O loops (I dunno the term), but the stock plug wouldnt fit on the horns male connectors
So I bought the Fiamm brand today and I was lookin at in the box in the store and they had two, neither of them had any wires tho, so i figured it was intentional, did you buy the fiamm brand or just something similar?
ETA: I just read your sig and answered myself, that is weird, you know the plastic box mine came in could be opened and closed without cutting anything, I wonder if some ******* just stole the wires out of the boxes

I bought the Fiamms also.

No, there were no wires in my kit, either. I was referring to the two original existing wires in the truck itself. There was a horn relay in the kit in case you wanted to wire them independently, but not necessary in my app. The two females which had been attached to the two stock horns were able to be used to wire the new Fiamm horns installed in the same positions as the stock horns. Just plugged 'em onto the males on the new horns. No real alterations at all.

ummmm I only had one horn in my truck stock, I will double check tomorrow, but I am almost positive, unless I completely missed the second. If I did I feel dumb, that would have made the whole process a lot easier, where were yours horns, one on each side of the radiator or were the close to each other?

My horns were both toward the driver's side of the hood latch assy. Mine's a Limited - is it possible the Limited has dual horns while some or all of the others have singles? That would explain what we're seeing. My horns were TERRIBLE so I can't imagine what a single would sound like!

It's an old Uniden that I've had for years. It's mounted high on the windshield just to the left of the rear view mirror. It's the most unobtrusive position with the best fore and aft view I could find. The reason I hardwire it is that I hate loose cables running to accessories so I wire them out of the way.

WAR07EAGLE & CKON; I was reading your post and felt that I just had to comment b/c a few months ago I spent about 15 or 20 dollars on parts, including male an female adapters to remedy this situation we have been faced with from toyota. Now we don't have a bad accelerator or anything but we have a horrible lousy horn. I myself attempted to do this mod and i kept blowing the fuse. I don't know if I wired it incorrectly, though it did work 1 time. I checked the fuse and it had been blown. I have the SR5 and that model only comes with 1 connector directly in front of the radiator. I tried something similar to War07Eagle and mine didn't seem to work correctly. I know you both those fiamm horns but that link you gave was not very descriptive and do you think you can take a picture of the wiring ? It's so horrible I have such a awesome vehicle with this crappy horrible horn. Please help me from one man to another. It's hurting my rep. ha ha. sorta.

Sounds like you do not have a good ground.

I first tested the stock wiring harness with one horn and it worked. I then spliced the wire out with a join and split Y-fashion to both horns (see wire diag image). Then neither worked. I disconnected one, and it still doesn't work.
I believe I attached the hot leads to correct terminals per horn instructions and grounded correctly.
What could be wrong?

Does that horn have a place for a ground...is that what the other terminal is that I see?

Check all connections, use some type of tester to check power to the horns.
Locate your fuse, check to see if it is blown.

I realized the picture was unclear, so I've updated it below
Hot leads are disconnected in the picture
Grounds (black) are wired to the metal attach bracket
Fuse is intact
Tested power to the horn wire - getting 12V when horn pushed
Thoughts??
