Weak power windows!

Whenever I have even a little ice on the 4RN the windows won’t roll down! They just stick due to the ice. Never had a car with such weak windows. 2020 4RN with 2800 miles. Is this a common issue?

Previously had a Tundra and only if it was a really hard freeze where you almost couldn’t even get the doors open would the windows not go down.

Kinda annoying!

There's ice overnight down there? In my parts I've had to just deal with it. They all freeze shut constantly. Sometimes I forget and hit the express down switch and just hear the motor groan, forget it - no drive through for the morning java today. I've tried everything I think the seals are not adequate and they are freezing up inside the doors. We are in a sudden freeze over just today actually - yesterday was above zero. They are all welded shut now. Obviously you can have far worse problems :rain:

Jesus!! -18 degrees!!!!!! I cant even process that as an actual temperature. Im a born and raised Florida boy and while I do appreciate having actual seasons here in Virginia (not just varying degrees of hot and humid like FL). I wouldn't even know what -18 feels likes though I can imagine my protest to leaving the sanctuary of my warm bed to tackle the work day. :smow:

-18 in the Toronto area is actually an oddity, we're just getting a blast from the N/W. Great Lakes generally keep us warmer in these parts so I only get to use the block heater a couple times each winter. Out West you probably gotta be plugged in every night if you want some decent heat outta these things within a few mins of drive time... not sure how those peeps do it ! I much prefer the summer temps we see out here sometimes :flamethrwoer2:

OP, what does the voltage look like on your battery? Do you're head lights dim when you start the truck?

It does get cold in Canada. It gets so cold in Montreal, that many of the resident's lips can no longer form the English language. Terrible.

Ice on the windows give it some time to open the window.
I own a GM truck ,, many years ago and I hit the window switch by mistake and the cable snapped because the window locked up with an ice storm.. had to replace the door window actuator assy 120 bucks.
what I do is use silicone paint safe spray on the window rubber seals.. this prevents the ice from gluing on the window/rubber seals.. buy it at homedepot... in my area the cold northeast in winter they many times are out of stock.. so I buy 3 cans in nov. also spray up the snow blower and snow shovels...

drop the windows down then spray up the seals.. also spray on a soft cloth and wipe the silicone on the area were you do not want over spray. I also spray the tires/rims rock salt causes the tires/rims to get damaged..

Last night I stared a 2015 with original Panasonic in front of window. Lights dimmed at start up. It was 0F here. I think it's time for a new battery. Slow cold start this morning too.

Ohhhh I didn't even catch that. My wife is from Green Bay, WI and she said it is a "feels like -24deg f " day at home which is just f-ing staggering.

Flagstaff is about 7,000 feet in elevation and gets 100 inches of snow a year...

Flagstaff is a good place to go in the hot summer if you live in phoenix..
I have been to that area many times nice in the summer but ya a very cold snowy place in winter.. a great place to go camping ..

In the boston area I live , I go to the white mountains in new hampshire.. ..also in winter a great place for skiing ..

check and clean the battery terminals.. 0F then a much higher current is required so a battery connection may be the problem.

I put on a silicone dielectric grease on the battery connections .. keeps out the corrosive reaction..

short drives will reduce battery charging.. if a battery is @0F then the battery will not charge.. has to get warmer then it will start to charge....
I have done this work.. a cold battery sitting in the cold for a couple of weeks engine did not crank much slow.. I put the battery in the house put charger on it battery did not charge .. then after a 30 min charge on it it charged up normally .. 5-7yrs is a normal battery life .. short runs will not hold up in your area gets sulfated ..

run it for an hour then bring to a auto store have them do the load tester on it.. O F and it starts IMO still a good battery..

Truck is only 2 months old. Voltage is fine. Didn’t check the head lights when starting. But I think battery is ok. It wasn’t even that cold out. Maybe 20F

I live in flagstaff now. It is a nice place. I lived in Nashua NH for a few years and used to go up to the white mountains too. Nice area!

The truck is only 2 months old. Pretty sure then battery is good. I guess it’s possible I got a bad one but probably unlikely. Good info still! Thanks

Had a mid 20's degree day and ice was on my 4runner when I was taking our 7 year old to the walk-in clinic. After 15 minutes of driving, I tried cracking the window down, for some reason I can't remember now, and it wouldn't budge. I kept trying because I thought something was wrong...then realized it was the ice, so I stopped. Probably 10 more minutes passed by and I as able to roll it down. I've had that happen with our other vehicles in the past, but it was much colder at the time.
