Weather Stripping Coming Off!

Hey all,

Just picked up a 2002 4Runner. Have had it for a little over 2 weeks and already put over 2,000 miles on it!

Anyhow, my only gripe is that the weather stripping on the front doors are coming off. Not the rubber around the door itself, but the stripping around the door frame, and only around the upper corner. My question is what kind of glue/adhesive/epoxy would you all recommend? Most of the stuff I've found works either on metal, or rubber but haven't found anything that says it works for both.

I had the same thing happen on my 99. I used a little JB Water Weld epoxy putty. I pulled the weather seal out just a little and pushed some in the groove and pushed it back on. Next I took a pair of slip joint pliers and a rag and squeezed or pinched it in a couple of places. so far it has held fine for me.

I used the JB Weld (red tube). Seperated the rubber from the frame, squeezed in some JB in the rubber gap and on the metal frame itself, and then put it back in place and then wedged a boat paddle in the floor and used it to apply pressure against it while it dried.

mine looks exactly like yours. Thanks for the info on what to use. I called the dealer to seee if the weather stripping is still under warranty and they said they would look at it to see if it looked like a manufacturer defect in the stripping. If they say no, I will do what ya'll recommend.

That seems to be the common spot. Mine still isn't as tight as I want it to be, although it is much better. I might do it again and try to get it tighter, but I would suggest perhaps pulling the plastic retaining piece on the door sill to allow yourself some slack while trying to get it back into the upper corner, and then you can put the sill back on when you're done to pull everything tight. That should give you some more slack to play around with while trying to get it back into place.
