I ordered from Weathertech direct for my 2015 4Runner. I had the foam tape ones on my 2004 4Runner and after about 10 years the tape just started to come apart on the driver side front.
The new ones for the 2015 are in the window channel. I will also add confirmation that the back windows have a clear double-sided tape to hold them in the channel. The fronts are held in place from the pressure of having to bend them into place and that continued pressure from the bend holds them there.
Since I put mine in within two weeks of getting the 2015 the auto-up feature would not work and the front windows and would always reverse back down.
I called Weathertech Tech support and they mentioned two things 1) the back window ones don't get squeezed and bent into the window channel like the fronts do so the back ones need the tape to hold them in place. 2) the brand new window channel was too tight for the vent visor and the window and it is a known issue. They provided (for free including mailing) a plastic spatula where the spatula blade was really thick (about as thick as the space between the window channel itself) with instructions to take the visors out, run the spatula inside the channel back and forth several times then re-install the visors and keep the windows closed for 24 hours.
Once I got the spatula I skipped the part about taking the visors out and just ran the spatula inside the channel. That did not actually work. I went and removed the front two visors, ran the spatula as advised and then re-installed the visors and waited 24 hours with the windows up. This time and since the auto-up function on both front windows work without a hitch and they don't bounce back down.
This resolved the front window visors auto-up function. The rear windows did not have the problem and thus I didn't have to take them out and re-apply any double-sided tape.
Just FYI on my experience with the window channel style vent visors.
They do make a bit more wind noise (so did the outside ones on my 2004) but I like the fact that I can crack the window open in the rain or just enough in the summer to have some air circulate in the car while it sits locked in a parking lot.

Hey there, sorry to bring up an old post but I'm having the same issue with my new-to-me 2015 trail on the rear windows. Front work perfectly. I called up WeatherTech and they say there isn't anything they can do to help out and no one else has had the problem, any suggestions on how to proceed or where to find something like your "spatula"? I love the visors and don't like the exterior stick ons, but use my auto-windows 24/7. Thanks in advance!!

I had Weathertech vent visors on the driver/passenger doors on my F150.
I noticed over time that the side windows would get scratched at the top inch or so of glass. It was from rubbing against the vent visor with small pieces of dirt or sand caught in-between. Since that I have been cautious to install them on other vehicles.
Have anybody that's had them on long term notice this problem too?

No worries on the revival of the old post. It jogs everyone's memories and provides new readers a chance to find out things on a new-to-them subject.
Maybe I got lucky with the customer service rep for Weathertech. But this gives me a chance to post a follow up after about 2 and 1/2 years with them. First of all the front windows, even with the pressure that holds them in place became annoying when the window was open and the middle portion would flap back and forth in the window channel. The rear window ones lost the stickiness to the double sided tape and would easily just fall out when the rear windows were open while driving.
I went out and bought more of the 3M double-sided weather-resistant tape (thicker, almost like insulating foam) and put it in the middle of the front windows and on the rear window visors. On the front that stopped the rattling and on the rear they consistently stay in place without falling.
However...if the windows are open for a long time in the heat it's a 50/50 chance that the windows will auto-close. I realize I have taken up more space in the channel by adding thicker tape. My driver side windows seem to go up with no issues, it's the passenger side ones. I may take them out and try to match the same places I put the tape on the driver side ones. At the same time there is no rattle in the front ones and the rear window ones don't fall out anymore so there is something good there.

I really appreciate the reply. It seems like it's a hit or miss issue with WeatherTech's on t4r's, which is a bummer. I've had them (and still do) with 7 different vehicles. Never had a single problem except for one pair cracking when some kid at school snapped it off the window (good ol' high school). I'll just play around with them for awhile to see what I can get done and try a few different things. I also found one other thread after some more digging that recommended resetting the anti-pinch window register, so I may give that a shot later today. If I find something that works, I'll make sure to post it up in the hopes that I help someone else out in the future!

Mine fit inside the window so there is no tape. I’ve had them for two years with no issues.
